One possible scenario.

The house refuses to deal and the Obama administration, facing a catastrophic credit default, takes action at the executive level to prevent default, circumventing the debt limit by executive order, citing the 14th amendment. The house moves to impeach the president, and quickly does just that in a straight party line vote.

In all likelihood, the deal will be made, in the last hours of the last day.

It should never have come this far, of course, but that's how crazy they are.
