Why else would they have closed up shop and went home at 10 p.m. last night with no plan to come back until what noon or 2 pm tomorrow? The 2 leaders know that the Senate has a possibility of requiring 60 hours of debate before this can be passed and wouldn't they want to start the clock ticking TONIGHT if they really had a deal in sight? Keep in mind also that we've been told even since BEFORE the government shut down 16 days ago, that a deal was in sight and it never materialized.
Tuesday's Kabuki theater in the House leads me to believe that McConnell isn't really serious about a deal either. Why else let the clown car take over for an entire crucial day?
If I recall correctly, the fiscal cliff deal was reached in the middle of the night and immediately debated/voted upon. Why not here in a far more urgent situation for the globe?
I think McConnell is holding out for concessions that Majority Leader Reid is unwilling to give. They probably don't want to:
a) Poison the well between each other when one or the other eventually breaks down and gives in by attacking each other relentlessly now.
b) Why not trick the markets and avoid a 4,000 point crash as long as you can?
This so called Reid/McConnell deal is like Charlie Brown and the elusive Lucy football. Where is it! If a deal isn't on the floor by 2:15 p.m. ET today, I think its clear McConnell has every intention of causing a default and letting the chips fall where they may.
Frustrating and scary!!

(1,835 posts)What bill will the house be voting on when they couldn't even get one out of their rules committee today and the senate needs to pass a bill first for them to be able to vote on. My understanding was that Boehner was going to allow a vote on whatever the Senate sends him. Have you heard differently? Am I wrong here? In any event, where is the senate bill?

(1,835 posts)is this much heralded and trumpeted McConnell/Reid Deal to save the world? The deadline is tomorrow and they go home to have a nice sleep and come back just 10 hours before the deadline and plan to pass their bill in 5 or 6 hours Cruz filibuster and 60-hour senate debate requirements notwithstanding? What..... is some magic fairy going to make this happen?

(25,183 posts)But everybody in Congress is playing the "See, I'm doing something, it's those bad people on the other side keeping me from having my way who are messing things up!" game.
My prediction: It all breaks down some time later today or tomorrow, and we go into formal default. Each side thinks the other will suffer the worst from it, and be motivated to cry "uncle". We'll see who's right in the next few weeks, that's how long I think this thing is going to play out.
