Buono did not have the support of enough members of her caucus to remain in the position. State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) is expected to succeed her, although Buono was offered to share the majority leader position with Weinberg.

They wouldnt need to consider 2016.
I think its more that Christy likely represents the same corporate goals as the Dem leadership, so beating him isnt a priority.

It would use up ammo, and make him appear like a winner. That would help him turn out the part of the base that hates him.
