Counter for an argument about min wage.

My repug of an uncle who has always been self employed argues that Min Wage can't be raised in the U.S. because our money is the world currency standard and that if we raised the min wage in this country places like England and Canada would suffer because there economy couldn't handle raising the min wage.

My wife especially tried to point out to my uncle that actually right now the dollar is weaker than other countries currency.

He bitched that she was a stupid female liberal.

So how do we counter this argument?

My husband stopped speaking to a family member for calling me a bitch. I'm sorry you have to accept that your partner being called such a name is acceptable. I'm a little more sorry that you think it is as well.

Money is a helluva drug I suppose.

I think you have bigger issues than coming up with a counter argument. Allowing your Uncle to treat your wife like that should be a much bigger concern than a political discussion.

Just sayin'...

Peace,
Raine.

It is like trying to hide 12-years odor of tobacco smoke with frebrezze. You just make the stink worse.

His argument makes no sense; how does raising the min wage here increase cost worldwide via our money is world backup. The stupid, it burns!

He refused to attempt to answer her question with reason and logic and used an ad hominem attack instead. You cannot have a serious debate with him.

so I could avoid it like the plague it is, it's making him stupid.

However, tell him to consider that the minimum wage is $15/hr in Australia and their economy is doing much better than ours or the UK's is. Connect the higher minimum wage to higher demand for goods and services that create more jobs. Then connect the higher sales of goods and services into higher profits and dividends to stockholders.

Also remind him that 6 months after any rise in the minimum wage, there is dead silence from employers who are enjoying better business. No one has ever wanted to roll it back beyond a few crackpot libertarians.

At that point (if you get that far), he'll be gibbering down a ditto list or he'll stomp away to reboot.
