Challenger Rick Kriseman topped Mayor Bill Foster with 56 percent of the vote compared to Foster's 44 percent, according to the Pinellas Supervisor of Elections Office. Mail ballots and all but two of the city's 92 precincts have been counted.

Kriseman, 51, gathered with supporters at Nova 535, but was huddled in a back room to receive results privately with his family. A Kriseman worker escorted Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn into the room about 7:45 p.m.

Foster, who was gathered with supporters at the Manhatten Casino, called Kriseman to concede about 7:45 p.m.

Former Democratic state lawmaker Rick Kriseman appears to have handily defeated Bill Foster, making Foster the first incumbent to lose a re-election bid since the city switched to a strong-mayor form of government.

With 90 of 92 precincts reporting, Kriseman leads Foster with 29,042, or 56 percent, of the 52,133 votes cast, according to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office.
