I have never been in favor of primarying Democrats.
That changes tonight.
All elected Democrats in New Jersey that endorsed Christie must be politically disemboweled.

If this jack ass get elected president, can we blame New Jersey the way Texas was blamed for Bush.

(27,247 posts)New Jersey has more Superfund sites (116) than any other state.

A Suferfund site is defined as "an uncontrolled or abandoned place where hazardous waste is located, possibly affecting local ecosystems or people."

(18,705 posts)Damn, that is a little state for so many superfund sites.

(27,787 posts)Here's the simplified version.
Christie's response to Sandy is perceived as strong in NJ. That issue trumps all others. In state Dems in NJ want to keep their jobs, and their connections. They decide its in their own PERSONAL best interest to get behind Christie while the shadow of Sandy remains.
NJ politicians tend to put themselves first, then they look at the issues. Just look at Christie as an example. People in NJ tend to know and accept all this. Everyone, even the voters, play both ends against the middle.
So, in a sense you are right, it is in the political water, so to speak.

(21,056 posts)in a Democratic state. I agree.
One has to wonder if TPTB wanted him to win simply so he would be the '16 nominee on the other side. I don't think that is fair to those in NJ who are harmed by his Republican policies. Heck, voters in NJ rejected his minimum wage veto tonight!

(94,974 posts)DU is NOT representative of the Party at large, and most Democrats are not as politically engaged as those who frequent political blogs. Christie won in large part because self-identified Democrats voted for him.

(13,923 posts)But that seems to be a distinction that New Jersey has not mastered yet. Granted I make this sweeping generalization from my west coast safe haven, and with really only 4 points of reference, so maybe I am missing some key bit that would make sense of the whole thing.

A landslide win will make him a legend in his own feeble mind and he will uncase his insufferable angry bloviating inner bear.
I would like to think that Democrats set this up with that in mind but I am doubtful.

(62,287 posts)But if one of them gets an upgrade to a firehouse out of it I'm not going to complain, if one of them gets new upgrades to their redlights or upgrades to their roads or bridges, I'm not going to complain. What sucks is that because of corrupt politics they felt that they needed to do it.
They did it to get something not to give anything. Most people are rational and see it for what it is. Realpolitik.

(62,325 posts)about?
We have Republicans, far too many, in the Cabinet of a Democratic President and we have people here telling us that these Republicans are 'good for the country'.
Now we hear that 30% of Dems in NJ voted for a Republican!!!
I've seen people right here on DU fawn over Christie. And we had that race in Florida where Dems were told to vote for the Republican.
What is going on here? One thing is certain, I am willing to bet that 30% of Dems who voted for a Republican, were NOT PROGRESSIVES.
And when he won, did Christie talk about 'bi-partisanship' with Dems? I can't say for sure because I didn't see the entire speech.
However, the Dem who squeaked through to a win in Virginia, made sure to talk about 'bi-partisanship' and 'pragmatism', working with Repubicans etc etc.
I wonder why Repubs never seem to feel the need to talk about 'working with Dems' while Dems can't seem to wait, even after we WIN, to hurry up and assure everyone they are not just going to represent those who elected them, they are going to work 'with Republicans'.
So sick of it all.

(47,589 posts)As the saying goes.
I don't live in NJ, and I have never voted for a Republican - at least, not when the elections were non partisan.
But if the citizens of New Jersey believe that Christie made a difference after Sandy, and on other issues..
From my wider perspective I would welcome a moderate - call it non-rabid Republican - over a teabagger.
Yes, we would love to have more teabaggers in the race so that they can be squashed. But I think, as a nation, we are better off with more moderate Republicans than with teabaggers. At some point, our representatives have to run a country, not keeping scores.

Question; If Christie gets the GOP nomination in 2016, will he carry NJ? Will other Blue states ALSO turn red and vote for him. Scarey stuff.
All we need is another generation of "Ray-Gun Democrats" that push the party further to the right.
