100+ Colorado Marijuana Shops Expected To Open On Jan. 1

On Jan. 1, 2014, marijuana dispensaries in Colorado selling recreational marijuana will open their doors for the first time in U.S. history -- and according to recent data from the state regulators, more than 100 shops statewide are expected to make history that day.

The Denver Post reported that the state's Marijuana Enforcement Division accepted 136 applications from from recreational marijuana stores in October. Individuals who submitted applications in the month of October are guaranteed a decision on their application by the end of the year and, if approved, can open doors on Jan. 1.

“If you got your application in, everything done in the month of October, you’re still going to have the benefit of a start date of Oct. 1 and have a decision by that Jan. 1 date," Julie Postlethwait, spokesperson for the marijuana regulatory office, told The Huffington Post.

The state regulators also accepted nearly 30 applications for marijuana-infused product businesses and almost 180 applications for recreational pot cultivation facilities, according to The Denver Post.

State law demands that only businesses who are already licensed for medical marijuana sales and are in "good standing" with the state can apply for a recreational license. Postlethwait said that there is a pool of roughly 550 medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado that can apply for recreational sales licenses.

And aside from the reason for their existence, which I certainly don't object to, it is really great to have businesses open where there used to be nothing but empty strip mall shops and urban blight.

And Mayor Hancock has this new "no consumption in public" proposal on the table, which apparently would allow the neighbors to complain about smoke they smell nearby. There is a lot of confusion, and nobody knows what will happen.

I play an open mic every Monday and they have a patio out back where you can go blaze up...

I doubt it will be like Amsterdam right away but eventually there will be places where you can buy and smoke up on the premises..

There already are vultures waiting from coast to coast.

Troopers really aren't interested in busting ounces. They want pounds and even more, they want couriers with money.

Washingtonians are just learning that not only does their "legalization" law not permit growing even a single plant -- now the State Liquor Control Board is asking for total monopoly - no home growing by medical users and no dispensaries

New Medical Marijuana Regulations Proposed In Washington

The group’s proposal involves lowering the amount of cannabis that patients are allowed to possess and restricts qualifying patient conditions more tightly. Further, the suggestions would force medical marijuana patients to obtain their cannabis from locations licensed under Washington’s recreational marijuana law

And we are paying for it. Democrats need to learn that not every law is a good law. Something is not always better than nothing.

are not required to change their testing procedures? My company does randoms and I work in an office doing AUTOCAD and nothing I do is safety related. The biggest risk anybody around me faces is a paper cut. It is none of the companies business what I do on my own time off of company property or job site. Just because weed stays in your system up to four weeks after use doe not mean your are high four weeks later.

Which I believe only shows if you have partaken in the last 12-18 hours... Still not great but better. And you can bet that someone will come up with a test that shortens the duration even more, lots of money to be made...
