On FB? Consider liking Congressman Levin (D-MI)

I am on Congressman Levin's friend list and his posts are in my news feed. Sandy Levin (Senator Carl Levin's older brother) posts a picture and the story to honor a different veteran every single day. I'm often touched by the stories of these vets. Many of them are elderly and fought in battles long ago.

We often talk of soldiers and vets here but this sort of thing makes it bit more personable. We owe so many of them so much. I hope some of you will check it out and maybe stop by there on occasion and leave a like or a comment.

Cheers,
Julie

You are spot on. His daily posts honoring individual Michigan veterans has been fantastic.

But Sandy does so much more. He reports to the public often on key bills and votes. Whether one agrees with his positions or not, he posts the reasons why he votes the way he did.

Even as one of the elder statesmen in the House, Sandy Levin was one of the first Congress Members to realize the importance of digital communication and launched a comprehensive website back when most Members had only a single page.

Although I do not live in his district (not even in his state) I have subscribed to his Congressional Connector digital newsletter for years.

Congressman Levin is a glowing example of a Member earning his salary. I wish all others could be half as good.

Thanks, Julie, for a great post.

Yes, Levin's great on a lot of levels. I'm in MI but north of his district, sadly. I have met him several times but had more contact with his brother who travels the state much more, naturally.

I think Congressman Levin is an unsung hero on the Dem side. Sure great to see someone who knows of this seemingly little known great guy who's on our side.

I just always expect that kind of communication from Levin's office.

Another thing to mention and another reason Congressman Levin does so well is the staff that he has built.

I've had the honor over the years to consult with half-a-dozen Congressional offices (from 2004 through 2008) including Congressman Levin's office. Not a brag, but just that I've been fortunate enough to have experienced it from both the inside and outside.

In my view there are two types of Chiefs-of-Staff in Congress. One is The Political Chief. S/he spends most time dining out, working with lobbyists, and grooming him/herself for either a departmental appointment when the party is in office or becoming a lobbyist when s/he retires from government service. The other type is The Working Chief. S/he is happy to make the Member's office run well. CoSs in these two groups don't even know each other because they never hang out in the same places.

Congressman Levin's Chief of Staff, Hilarie Chambers, and his Office Manager, Carol Ditta Ertel, are shining examples of a Working Chief and a Working office manager. They were in those positions before I went to DC and they are still there today.

Congressman Levin's staff is 100% a credit to the leadership of Congressman Levin.

I believe you are correct that Sandy Levin is one of the unsung heroes on the Democratic side.
