Does anyone have a list of stores that plan on staying open Thanksgiving basically not allowing

workers to spend time with their families so they can get a jump on Black Friday profits?

My wife is trying to get a list together of stores who will be open because she and a couple of friends will basically not shop at those store the entire holiday season.

They are also sending e-mails to those stores stating they are not shopping those stores because they will not respect their employees by allowing them to have the Thanksgiving holiday.

Some of you may think my wife is nuts but she strongly believes that if a store can't give employees Thanksgiving she isn't going to boost their "Christmas" sales.

If anyone wants to join her you are more than welcome.

so far we have heard:

Walmart

Kmart

Target

Keep in my some of these retailers no longer pay time and a half. They are treating it just like any other work day.

In Mass for example we have labor laws which require 1.5 time for holidays.

I have worked retail for ~9 years and my company won't ever open on thanksgiving, the higher end stores are not going that route and won't.

I'm kind of ambivalent on the whole issue.

everything from steak to seafood to Italian, and these are just the expensive stores. I'm certain -- indeed positive -- that smaller, "Mom & Pop" stores will be open in even greater abundance. Check your local newspaper. Better yet, walk to just about any corner in town.

It's going to be a busy holiday season, what with all these new cards of protest added to usual Christmas Card list.

(And lest you think I'm flip, my Mother worked as a waitress and raised four children by herself. She never spent a holiday with us. She also took in enough in tips on Thanksgiving and Christmas to pay for all our holiday cheer.)
