There's a novel idea. I doubt that it has ever been done before. Surely it wouldn't set a bad precedent.

Maybe we could send a few out to fight the war on hyperbole, afterwards.

Then after that, people who misuse memes and the word "literally", or who say "intensive purposes".

And the best way to stand up to schoolyard bullies is just that - stand up to them and don't be afraid to get your hair a little mussed.

I always try to get both sides of the story, so I went searching and found this:

The claim is they were posing for a picture, and the pic here was taken at the same time as the one from the side angle. Looks to be the case, at a glance anyway.

As a 2A/RKBA supporter, I will say that I don't think it was a smart move on the part of Open Carry Texas to show up at the restaurant where the other group was meeting.

But as long as we're using a pic to tell a story, I think it only fair we see the whole picture.

First, where is the car in front of them?

Second, the guy in the green shirt with the white cap is looking ahead in the first pic; he's looking DOWN at the child in the second pic.

The car is in the distance but looks closer because of the 2D depth loss in a photo. And it's quite possible that both photographers took the photos near each other in time, but not at the exact same instant. So the guy looks down at the child in one and ahead in another.

Given the large numbers of cameras available at any gathering, I'd not expect much different of a result.

Racism from police is usually manifested in one on one encounters with minorities. A gathering like this would have resulted in guidance from a supervisor, who would have likely provided the same guidance to do nothing and just observe.

A large group of African-Americans brandishing weapons openly and in public in Arlington, Texas (where I live and work) would be all over the news, gangs and drugs would be mentioned over and over, the APD chief would go on television to calm the community, etc (all the better to deflect from the steroid scandal the dept in embroiled in)...

But then again, maybe not "much different of a result"

Do the same photo again in the same location with African-Americans holding the same big American flag. Record the response.

Some assholes have already conducted a control for you. Any differences should be widely publicized.

I too lived in the South. I found racism to rarely be overt, but instead it simmered quietly in the background. That kind is actually far more sinister, as it gives people the impression they aren't racist fuckheads while still doing grave damage to minorities in the town.

Who doesn't think people in the restaurant wouldn't have felt in immediate danger? Who doesn't think the police wouldn't have been called? Who doesn't think they would have been arrested?

But they are white. And they have the flag.

So they're just regular Muricans. Nothing to see here, move on.
