Coffee is my favorite beverage.
I bet you didn't expect to hear that from a doctor. Don't get me wrong, I love water and I drink about 64 to 100 ounces a day. But I also drink my fair share of coffee. It's mostly decaffeinated and, I hate to admit this, but I've been a coffee drinker most of my life.
I started drinking the stuff when I was about five. In my mom's defense, it was mostly milk with a little bit of java mixed in. Drinking coffee was part of our ritual in the morning when eating breakfast, and I even had my own little mug.
There was something special about sitting down for breakfast and drinking from my own little cup.

It was warm and comforting.

(62,521 posts)I used to drink the stuff by the gallon, then one day, I was in mid cup and just stopped. It dawned on me that I absolutely love the smell of coffee but it never tasted like it smelled.
I have had people first try a cup of fresh brewed coffee for me (in case I was just getting crappy coffee that was burnt, old or poorly made) and when they said it was a great cup of coffee, I would taste it. Blech.
If I have to add sugar and creme to make it palatable, what's the point?
I drink tea. Tea tastes like it smells.
I know all the various reported benefits of coffee but I just can't bring myself to drinking it anymore.

(29,414 posts)The aroma is wonderful. The taste, not so much.
Chai is one of my biggest faves for tea, along with all the varieties of green tea. And that probably has far more benefits overall than coffee. Just don't take away my 88% cocoa-content dark chocolate

(5,477 posts)And probably drink too much coffee. This morning I had a cup of Columbia Huila brewed to perfection and a perfect macciato. At noon, I'll have a cup of a Panama Geisha brewed on a v60... the best coffee in the world. The wholesale cost is $100/lb! (we sell it for $10/cup).
