Kate Moss' (60th Anniversary) Playboy Bunny Photo Ignites Controversy

A very happy 40th birthday to the every-glorious Kate Moss, who chose to commemorate her milestone with a nude shoot for Playboy. Playboy may not be your go-to newsstand purchase, but you might be more tempted to pick up an upcoming issue of the publication: Kate Moss will be featured in Playboy’s January/February 2014 Issue, and as a delightful surprise, the magazine just released a preview of the piquant photo spread.

Moss’s Playboy debut has already sparked a vigorous discussion online, with commentators questioning whether the shoot is empowering or a repeat of the “Blurred Lines” debacle. Moss is not exactly known for her chastity in the face of the camera, but toeing the line between liberating and downright submissive in such a controversial publication is a risky move.

At The Daily Caller, writer Taylor Bigler faults both Moss and Playboy for the photo spread, which she believes will cause a social media frenzy despite Moss being insignificant and the magazine a relic of the past:

Two nearly irrelevant institutions have collaborated to create a product that people will freak out over for a week or so on Twitter…The model will be on the cover for the 60th anniversary of the magazine that your dad used to keep hidden under his bed at night before internet porn existed …Moss, of course, was extremely popular during the heroin-chic era of the early nineties, but has been replaced…

If publishing a photo causes a twitter freakout, then it's hard to argue that the publisher is insignificant or irrelevant.

1) "Blurred Lines debacle". Errr, okay, the most popular single of the year is a debacle? Right, so you can have your opinion on the song and video, but commercially it was a huge success.

2) What is controversial about Kate Moss posing as a Playboy bunny? She's a model and has covered just about every magazine. And what does it have to do with Blurred Lines?

3) Kate Moss "insignificant"? Righto, she's only one of the top models of the last 20 years. According to Forbes, currently the 4th highest paid model in the world.

The author should think about finding a different line of work away from journalism. PS, she looks pretty good.

Someone is all upset about both. Wow, too bad. More power to Moss.
