Los Angeles Times columnist Michael Hiltzik is one of several journalists and bloggers whove taken it upon themselves to debunk horror stories about Obamacare, including Erik Wemple in The Washington Post, Eric Stern in Salon, and Paul Waldman in The American Prospect. They and other writers identified gaps in media reports about disgruntled consumers who appeared on CBS This Morning, Fox Newss Hannity, and other outlets.
The whole concept of the media checking the media is a new phenomenon, said Duke University professor Bill Adair, a Poynter adjunct faculty member who created the Politifact website.
... In the not-so-distant past, mainstream news organizations generally avoided direct criticism of their competitors journalism. While it wasnt unusual for newspapers and broadcasters to follow up on other organizations reporting and sometimes find errors in those earlier stories such matters traditionally were handled relatively politely.
... But Hiltzik no longer sees the need for such restraint when calling out competing news organizations. As he sees it, the media now promote their stories more loudly, and some organizations tinge them with partisan politics.

(75,480 posts)There are things to criticize about the program, but none of those have been about the feces slinging that is going on in the media. The fact is, that the biggest criticisms to throw at the ACA is that it's not single payer and it's a copy of Romney care that was an idea hatched by the Heritage Foundation that borrowed it from Bob Dole. It's a Republican health care idea. The Republican funded MSM should be praising it.

(18,791 posts)I was so damned mad, listening to a local traffic channel 1070AM in Los Angeles tonight, I was yelling at the radio in the car.
I am SO fucking tired of CBS running down the President and the ACA. They do nothing but call it Obamacare over and over and over, in a sarcastic tone.
This whole thing has become a bring-down-the-President march...and it's a dream come true for the PukeBaggers (my conspiracy theory!)

(1,314 posts)how horrible the ACA website was. They mentioned it 3 times in 5 minutes.
A disgusting group of reporters. When I was growing up, 1070 was a great news station.

(2,397 posts)I believe you're correct. For a brief period I lived in L.A. (77/79) and did listen. Probably the first time I really listened to a News Station. But they are supposed to be the "pro's" as L.A. is the number 2 market inthe country.
Really sad when a major market station lets their audience down.

(6,829 posts)It's organic checks and balances rising up from the muck that is our MSM.
Like MSM anti-bodies assimilating to fend off invading cancer cells. This could be one way to return back to some form of journalistic integrity, considering it's now perfectly legal to knowingly lie in your news broadcasts now.
And I say that for the vast majority of Americans that don't realize there is now no law requiring honesty in journalism. You, as a news consumer, are supposed to be so well informed that you as an individual determine your favorite news is pure bullshit and you have the choice as a consumer to pick a news source you consider to be of higher quality. Which is hard to do considering the six major corporations that own most of MSM are all reciting the same scripted propaganda.
And it is for the above reasons that I've been a daily DU reader since the 2003 Iraq invasion. At least around here there's so many links to alternative news that does an end run around Corporate MSM propaganda and still practices journalistic integrity.
I also think, based on the results of the recent elections, that average America is catching on pretty fast now about the magnitude of MSM bullshit propaganda they are bombarded with. Americans are using "social media" more like Egyptians and other repressed countries to overthrow their tyrannical leaders.
