Online Retailer Fines Couple $3,500 For Negative Review, Then Dings Their Credit Score

A couple has been fined $3,500 and had their credit score dinged after writing a negative review online about an online retailer that never sent them the products they ordered.

The company that charged the fine is Kleargear.com, which sells odd gifts like LED shoelaces and desktop nap pillows, The Consumerist reports via KUTV.

Since when does a company have any authority to fine you for anything? I'd just laugh and throw their "bill" in the trash.

how can they claim they have a contract when the company didn't send a product and the couple cancelled payment through PayPal? This is weird. And scary.

Considering that the original complaint was "There is absolutely no way to get in touch with a physical human being,"

They should sue the retailer for a tidy triple digit sum and check out options to press criminal charges against the owners. The company lawyers will balk and threaten but so what. Legal contract my ass.

Terrible companies (and I worked for one) pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars to publish a phony report that proclaims that the company is addressing all of the quality issues, etc.
