Caroline Kennedy in Japan (photos)

New U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy waves from a horse-drawn imperial carriage on her way to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013. Kennedy, who arrived in Tokyo Friday to replace her predecessor John V. Roos, presented credentials to Japan's Emperor Akihito in a formal court ceremony at the palace.

...is something to laugh at. Hear this:

Because of the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, the people of Japan need the support and assistance of the United States of America more than any time in its history. I can think of no one better to demonstrate to the world the solidarity of the American people with the people of Japan than Ambassador Kennedy.

and happy for our country to be represented there by this woman, who has carried on the legacy of her family with such great dignity.

As an aside (and this is neither here nor there): I think Caroline Kennedy is a truly beautiful and elegant woman. But I note in these pictures that her face, up close, is more careworn than I would have thought for a woman her age. Heavens only knows, she's had lots of heartache to deal with in her life: from the death of her father and uncle(s), her brother, and mother. That family seems to live on tragedy.

...she has had to deal with, I am in awe that she can get out of bed in the morning. What she has endured would have leveled me. To be the only surviving member of your birth family happened way too early in her life. Her face reflects the traumas and triumphs of her life.

She is to be greatly admired, and I'm sure the spirits of her departed family members are cheering her on grom wherever they might be.

Yoku dekimashita, Caroline! (Japanese for "Well done/Good job." I loved there for 2 years while in the AF nurse corps)

another horse drawn carriage she watched fifty years ago.

I've had the pleasure of working a campaign with her and I know she'll do a great job - a very thoughtful person.

wonder or speculate. They could not have hoped for more accomplished daughter and exemplary human being.

I always remember Jackie's statement to the effect that, "If you bungle raising your children, not much else matters." (probable slight paraphrase)

She did not bungle it.
