Supreme Court Refuses to Block Texas Abortion Law

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/supreme-court-refuses-block-texas-abortion-law-20943366

A sharply divided Supreme Court is allowing Texas to continue enforcing abortion restrictions that opponents say have led more than a third of the state's clinics to stop providing abortions.

The justices voted 5-4 Tuesday to leave in effect a provision requiring doctors who perform abortions in clinics to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

The court's conservative majority refused the plea of Planned Parenthood and several Texas abortion clinics to overturn a preliminary federal appeals court ruling that allowed the provision to take effect.

The four liberal justices dissented.

The case remains on appeal to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. That court is expected to hear arguments in January, and the law will remain in effect at least until then.

More than a third of the state's clinics closed. Our reproductive rights are at risk. It's awful. And it's why I am so passionate about changing the narrative. When one insists something should be rare, they don't fight to expand access or blink when it's being taken away.

I was hoping that the SCOTUS would step in. The opinion by Priscilla Owens was horrible and full of holes.

SB 2 is a horrible law and I was happy when the Federal District judge enjoined it. The 5th Cir. should have never stayed that ruling. The only reason that Priscilla Owen is on the 5th Cir. is due to the fact that the GOP threatened the nuclear option back in 2005. At the very minimum, Harry Reid needs to pull the trigger on the nuclear option
