(343 posts)But why didn't Democrats embrace it in 1994 when it was clear that HillaryCare wasn't going to happen?
We could have had this plan in place twenty years ago and we would now be settling for a public option over single payer. As it stands now, we must wait another generation just for that public option, and two generations for single payer.
Foresight, it does a body politic good.
grantcart
(53,061 posts)The incremental increases to single payer came much more quickly.
What will accelerate the process is if one state implements single payer and it works well.
Vermont is now considering that question.

(53,061 posts)Get the ACA working and the principle that everyone deserves insurance.
Then work on getting the most efficient system.

Obamacare will succeed. First it have to win the battles that the opposing party keep throwing at it alongwith their lying arse minions, the corporate media aka non-journalist lite.

(8,303 posts)ACA is in many ways a step forward, but the whole medical payment system in the US seems broken to me.

(13,986 posts)The ACA does a lot of good things, but we have more to do later.
But then, the President called the ACA a "gradual revolution", didn't he? A good thing to remember.

(83,754 posts)where its due.
The corporate controlled media's spin. The GOP shills on fox etc. The GOP Governors that will not set up exchanges. And the attempts at sabotaging the ACA site and more.
It's going to work, in fact is working and will not only save lives, it saves people money with far better care.
It will be awesome, Cha~

(13,986 posts)None of the doubters, naysayers, Teabaggers or other anti-Obama types can explain how the old profit-driven model is better than than what the ACA offers. Because, the new system would have keep him alive for longer.
And the old system killed him. Fuck anyone who opposes health care reform:
Here is the story: http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2013/06/25/one-year-ago-today-americas-profit-driven-health-care-system-killed-my-only-son-asterisk-free-post/
Cha
(297,196 posts)hear that, riqster!
Thank you for your advocacy, Cha. That is one thing that helps: seeing other people push for reform of, and access to, health care.
Cha
(297,196 posts)seeing so many other "people push for reform" would give some comfort because you are the kind of person who doesn't want anyone else to go through what you and your family have, riqster.

(13,986 posts)I know other parents will go through what we did... But let's try to make it as rare as possible.

(1,898 posts)slightly less shit now. It's the insurance companies that is the biggest problem with healthcare in America. Even after the ACA they will still put profits over people's lives.

(13,986 posts)The ACA is a great first step. We have to push for further changes, and fight the manifold attempts to roll it back.
