(46,179 posts)I don't have any republican family members anyway, but the single libertarian and the rest of us don't bring up politics.

We tend to keep it fixated on Lions vs. Packers at the table.

(4,463 posts)... I'm the only Dem at the table, but they are fairly reasonable over-all for Republicans. Some of them are Auburn fans, though, and I do despise them for that!!!

(39,343 posts)That's going to be my opener (even if it's not 100% accurate). I'm dining with hardcore fundy, rw, teabagger rally attending (yet government depending) nutjobs.
I'm also going to round out my diatribe be repeatedly declaring my love for, and excuses for partaking in medical marijuana (even though the side effects from my meds have long since passed). I've been so looking forward to being able to proclaim my love for the weed to all my pukey family. The best thing is that they can't say a damned thing.
I'm not going to start anything, but if they do, I'll sure as hell finish it.

(146,345 posts)My wife's family is sort of like that. My family is pretty conflict-free at gatherings, although we often disagree on political issues. Conflict avoidance, though, is one of the things my parents, who are both 89 now, have always insisted on within the family. It has served us all pretty well, I think.
