Thanksgiving-Christmas Creep: Ok, so who has put up Christmas-type decorations prior to T'Giving?

And, when I say Christmas-type, I include those who put up trees and lights for Solstice or other non-Christian/non-religious Holiday celebration...

No matter how bad things may get in general, I am eternally grateful to live in CO!

Oh, and I relented since my neighbor put up theirs several days ago... Plus, it is good to pick a "warmish" day to put up anything involving lights..

My inside tree, however, won't go up (or at least won't get decorated) until Thanksgiving night.

about the middle of December or so.

The people across the street put their Christmas decorations up Thanksgiving weekend. They have out of town family come in for Thanksgiving every year, and celebrate Christmas too. The woman said that the logistics of dealing with where people go for Christmas made this an easy answer.

Try having Hanukkah start the night before Thanksgiving. It's the first time it's happened in 100 years or so, and it won't happen again for 70,000 years (!).

We already had to buy presents for the little kids and wrap and ship them off. Thank goodness, Hanukkah doesn't involve much more than lighting candles and making some potato latkes in our post-children household.

mainly because I find them to be more trouble than they're worth but the tree must go up on Thanksgiving day or the kids will rebel.

We bought the tree yesterday and it's ready to go.

Being atheists who love Christmas anyway, we put up our decorations the weekend before Thanksgiving if we're having T/giving at our house (as this year). If not, we put them up the weekend after T/giving.
Ours is not quite traditional, we have a white tree with blue and white balls on it, and white lights, with lots of silver and white other things around the house (a white and silver Santa, some nutcrackers, etc), so our house looks more like it's set up for a winter celebration rather than just Christmas. It looks very cool, we love it and every year can't wait to put everything out!

My oven, furnace and car are broke. No amount of eggnog, whiskey, decorations or turkey carcasses will make it any better. I turned down a food box because I can't cook anything. Besides, I don't need turkey and cranberries while shivering in front of a space heater to thank God, our imaginary little friend.

This year, I procrastinated and the weather was shitty and I put a few up last Sunday. My wife is onto me to get up on the roof and do the others. I hate going up on the roof.

I hate it!#(#*&

Edit, I never turn lights on until after Thanksgiving, the trees go up the day after. That is what Black Friday is really about.

I'm giving folks a pass this year, at least as far as this past weekend goes. Christmas is on a Wednesday, and that really leaves only 4 weekends before Christmas. They can be pretty busy weekends too. We're still purists and won't be putting things up until next week, but busy parents can be forgiven for trying to get some things done ahead of time.

I just love all the beautiful light displays, when the days are so short and the dark is so long! The lights will stay up until the first weekend after January 1. I don't do trees or inside decorations; I have 3 cats = disaster!

Reason being all the cooking I do on Thanksgiving I don't have time to deal with the decorations.

With that said, since losing the love of my life the holidays just are not the same for me anymore and I do not decorate. I just light a candle in his memory & try to make it to the new year without losing it.

i have a problem with the christmas lights though. why is it that all of them are working when you take them down but when you put the lights back up there are some that don't work anymore or it doesn't work at all ? maybe they get damaged from being moved around.

Plus my heart is still in Alaska and old habits die hard. The lights go up early up north. They must be white though. It helps with the darkness.
