Five passengers were riding in the vehicle as it traveled northbound on North Ronks Rd. in East Lampeter Township, about a quarter mile from Route 30.

At about 9 p.m., they heard a loud noise as a car passed by.

“They didn’t think it was anything,” said Sgt. Brian Cloonan. “They thought it was a firecracker at the time.”

At their destination, a farm in Ronks, one of the passengers discovered the horse was bleeding from its mouth. A bullet wound stained the horse’s torso.

I fucking hate people. Horses are the hardest working, kindest and most timid animals. That somebody would do this makes me sick.

Because I don't come by it naturally.

Because, if someone shot my horse, I would have no problem whatsoever with hunting that person down and sending them to their maker.

I value my horses', and, for that matter, my dog's and cat's, lives more than I do humans who kill for sport.

So I don't own or keep or use weapons, and I'm doing my best to learn to return kindness to offense. I oppose the death penalty, no matter what my emotions scream at me.

Meanwhile, I think I'll go give my horses a hug, and hope that they catch the shooter and prosecute him or her to the fullest extent of the law, which, from my perspective, won't be nearly enough.
