I ended up having to work today, I could have said no, but here I is.
We had a job roll in last Saturday and we started working on the components bright and early Sunday morning with the expectation that if we busted ass we could get it knocked out by Wednesday and have nice 4 day weekend. By the end of day Monday we simply knew that was not going to be the case as unexpected damage was discovered on inspection, that lead to alot of machine work, some build up, and even more machine work. The job is as hot as they can get and any and all costs have been approved.
We got together as a group and laid out the plans the best we could and it was just the right decision for some of us to work on Thanksgiving.
I certainly awoke in a foul mood, had a hard time getting out of bed, and evidently drank all of my milk and did not throw the carton away. Damn, no milk too? So I hoped in my car around 6 and hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go. The streets were empty and I didn't catch a single light on my drive down 1960, pretty much alone. 30 degrees and kinda hazy, uhhhh ...
Somewhere along the drive the sun started to come up and I just happen to see one of the prettiest sunrises I have seen in many years, I stopped in at the dougnut shop and grabbed a dozen for me and my co-workers and was met with smiles and Holiday greetings. I opened up the building and turned the lights on as my fellow unfortunates staggered in ... each with something to bring; some breakfast tacos, cake, juice, a pie, and all with Holiday greeting.
We rolled up the back door and laid our bounty on the picnic table behind the building and watched the sun come up over a great breakfast and then the reality set in.
"Let's get in here and knock this shit out so we can get the hell outta here"
Overall, a great start to one of my favorite Holidays. I look forward to dinner with my family later today, but right this minute I am thankful to have a great group of people to work with and a beautiful sunrise.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

(23,156 posts)What I like best is how every single one of you brought something to share. That can just about make up for working the holiday.
Hope you get the work done early and have the rest of the long weekend to enjoy.

(34,582 posts)volunteered to work today. The company fed them the standard thanksgiving fare, which I thought was cool. I showed up and dropped off some pies for them- that was one thing that was forgotten.

(10,495 posts)The key is finding whatever joy can be had during your day, whether you be at work or play. We only get one go around in life so we should try to find beauty and joy where we can. If more of us would be better co-workers instead of back stabbers and game players work would not be so bad. If there is an espree de corps (sp) the work always goes faster and more enjoyably! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
P.S.
Wish you could all enjoy my smoked turkey and ribs, I have really gotten good at this!

Some times, the geometry of the universe lines itself up in a way that unlocks a deep appreciation for our existence.
Your gratitude will carry you through.

(14,910 posts)I too, had to pull a few hours this morning as a snow removal contractor.
I too, witnessed a great sunrise; however I was alone to witness it, and couldn't nearly match the way in which you conveyed your own thoughts and emotions as you did...
Fantastic OP!
Thanks for sharing!

(3,528 posts)We could use some of that up here in Canada right about now. -14 Celsius at night, wind chill makes it feel a lot worse. Oh well, it's winter!
Happy thanksgiving to all my American DU'ers! Have a great one with family and friends!
