Ancient Humans Had Sex With A Mystery Species

A new, improved sequencing of ancient human relative genomes reveals that Homo sapiens didn't only have sex with Neanderthals and a little-understood line of humans called Denisovans. A fourth, mystery lineage of humans was in the mix, too.

As reported by the news arm of the journal Nature, new genetic evidence suggests that several hominids — human relatives closer than humans' current living cousin, the chimpanzee — interbred more than 30,000 years ago. This group of kissing cousins included an unknown human ancestor not yet revealed by the ancient DNA record.

"It's implied it could be something like Homo erectus or similar," said Carles Lalueza-Fox, a paleogenomics researcher at Pompeu Fabra University in Spain, who was not involved in the research, but who was present at a talk on the findings given by lead author David Reich of Harvard Medical School at a meeting on ancient DNA sponsored by the Royal Society in London on Nov. 18. Homo erectus is an extinct species of human that originated in Africa and spread into Asia.

Did Fallen Angels Have Sex with Earthly Women?

"And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose [Gen. 6:1–2].

This matter of "the sons of God" and "the daughters of men" is something that has caused no end of discussion. There are a great many good men who take the position that "the sons of God" were angels. I personally cannot accept that at all. Most of my teachers taught that the sons of God were angels, and I recognize that a great many of the present-day expositors take that position. However, I cannot accept that view, because, if these were good angels, they would not commit this sin, and evil angels could never be designated as "sons of God." Also, the offspring here were men; they were not monstrosities. I do not know why it is assumed by so many that the offspring were giants. We will look at this more closely when we come to verse 4.

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years [Gen. 6:3].

Thanks for the thread, FarCenter.

but we cannot mate with other species, only our own. The only mystery is the unknown details yet to be discovered.

If it is one of our many ancestors, it is our species, by definition. Bad science writing.

and the low level of Neandertal contribution to the genome of non-African H. sapiens (for instance) indicates that such mating events may be fairly isolated things that need only have occurred a single time for any advantageous genes passed on through the offspring of that isolated mating to propagate to most of the rest of humanity...and to have done so relatively quickly; the most-recent common ancestor point for most of humanity (outside of geographically isolated populations in Oceania, North America, and sub-Saharan Africa, is probably as recent as 2000 years or so).

Modern H. sapiens probably left Africa about 70K years ago. They reached Australia by about 50 K years ago, and Indian tribals, Andaman islanders, Papuans, etc. are remnants of that first expansion across South Asia.

However, most Eurasians are the result of expansions out of refuges after the last glacial maximum about 20K years ago. This includes North and South Americans who migrated from Siberia.

The initial expansions were more recently replaced by Neolithic farmers who began expanding about 10K years ago from the centers of wheat and rice agriculture to cover most of Europe and East Asia.

Although there's also the possibility of continued migration and gene flow across the Bering Strait. Note "geographically isolated populations such as sub-Saharan/Australian" excluded; the most recent common ancestor of all Europeans probably lived c. 1200 years ago, or less, for a point of comparison.

after Cain was cast out of the Garden of Eden, god put a mark upon his body so that the others that he came across would know him for who he was and wouldn't harm/kill him.

This is the exact issue which caused me to leave church when I was 16, turning me agnostic, then full blown atheist. I asked the preacher a very simple question, to which the answer is in my title to this post, at least in my mind....

What was the question I asked?? :" The bible says that after Cain was cast out of the Garden of Eden, god put a mark upon his body so that the others that he came across would know him for who he was and wouldn't harm/kill him, right? *Where* did these other people come from?" All the preacher had to say was "the bible says Adam & Eve were the *FIRST*, not the *ONLY*". Instead, he just stood there looking at me dumbfoundedly, as if I was speaking a foreign language or something. How could a man who had been a preacher for 30+ years, had gone to bible college, the seminary, etc., not come up with such a simple answer for a 16 year old kid??

I left that day, and never went back though, due to my thirst for knowledge, I kept reading the bible, studying other religions from satanism to wicca, odinism, paganism and buddhism. I came to the conclusion that it was all a load of BS, and I had the "free will" to live my life knowing right from wrong, and mostly trying to help out those less fortunate than myself... but without expecting any kind of reward at the end, like living in some imaginary mansion in the sky, or being tortured for beyond eternity for some of the other things I've done in my lifetime.

Peace,

Ghost

That homo sapiens are the product of aliens mating with Chimpanzees, thus, creating man? Chimpanzees continued to mate with their own species and Neanderthals mated with each other to continue their own line. The theory would be, that aliens arrived on Earth, mated with everything that moved (sounds like man) and yet only the Chimpanzee breeding was a success and Man was born....(I thought of this idea, when I learned about DNA back in 1964, being just a crazy kid who had viewed lots of fantasy and outer space movies). My Theory, back then was called "The Monkey-Alien Theory" (even tho I learned the Chimps were closer to our DNA). This Theory can be great topic of conversation at any gathering!
