General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have made a decision to refer to Fox News as the best 24 hour comedy channel when discussing
politics. I will plead ignorance to any right winger who brings up Fox in a conversation. I usually say, "I've never watched the channel. But I'm told by my friends that they have never laughed so hard as when they watch it". I say things like, "I'm really too busy helping the poor because of the inequities of our corrupt corporate financial system to watch television, but I've been told that it's the best absurd comedy channel on television". If they bring up some news story on Fox I say, "That must have been really funny." or "They really shouldn't make fun of such a serious subject". or "I've been told 'some' of the comedians they have during their skits aren't funny but most of the time they are hilarious."
I do this because I consider it a lost cause to change their minds. They must change their own minds. If that's possible. I consider subversively calling out Fox as absurd and not relenting is true irony wrapped in sarcasm that totally zooms over the head of a less than intelligent righty. It has worked for me so far so I'm keeping it up. If I sincerely play the part of being uninformed about Fox and it confuses the person to the point that they shut up totally and I'd just as soon not spend any more time as possible discussing the opinions of tea bagging hate mongers.
When they ask me where I get my information I say, "What I live and witness personally in my life every day gives me enough information to be informed". http://www.alternet.org/video/video-jon-stewart-rips-fox-news-lying-motherfckers-about-obamacare

(15,064 posts)channel watchers tends to mess with them so much they shut up. When I play the part of believing Faux Boobs is funny they do not know what to say because I sound so sincere.

(8,646 posts)There's nothing they hate more than being laughed at. It makes their hatred lose all of its power. When I hear someone watches Fox news, I start laughing heartily and I say, "NO WAY! Not YOU? Really? You do know that no one in the world considers that REAL news right? It's comedy gold! Man, I thought you already knew that! You must only watch it for the laughs - that's the only reason anyone watches it anymore!" They usually mumble, "yeah, that's why I watch it haha" then slink away.

(1,389 posts)It's analogous to jokes about a Nazi, KKK member, Stalinist, or the like being considered funny. I just can't get there. They perpetuate too much harm and discord.

(8,646 posts)it's simply a tactic to marginalize them. Personally, I like to use whatever means I can to make them feel like the idiots they actually are.
