Westboro Baptists ‘booking flights’ for Johannesburg to protest Mandela’s funeral

Last edited Sun Dec 8, 2013, 12:08 PM - Edit history (1)

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/12/07/westboro-baptists-booking-flights-for-johannesburg-to-protest-mandelas-funeral/

The Westboro Baptist Church has a long history of media-soliciting domestic and international hate protests, with pickets targeting the funerals of dead children at Sandy Hook, fallen soldiers and celebrities like Paul Walker drawing outsized attention.

Their next dive into the fray is a triple-gainer by their historical standards, though — a protest of Nelson Mandela’s funeral. In South Africa.

In a series of deliberately-provocative Twitter posts, the church says it is buying plane tickets to South Africa and is hoping to coordinate with South African police while they stage a protest at the funeral, citing Mandela’s divorce and remarriage as evidence of damnation.

This does not mean we need to make it easy on them, as groups protecting military funerals have proven, repeteadly.

I also know these guys are confirmed cowards. They were run off Comicon and have yet to come back. Yup, one confrontation with geeks and nerds in close order drill formation, and they turn tail. At least 1000 to 10 though, with cops grinning...I think that was the intelligent thing to do.

So while they have that right to do what they do, none of us has to well, surrender. The part of the equation these bullies forget is, I also have that right, and so do my homies. Alas this does not extend to SA, so you will see something interesting. I hope the SA government simply refuses them entry to their country. And if they manage to get in, I suspect people will be even more...muscular in the counter protest than the nerds and geeks at Comicon. Or the people who protect military funerals for that matter. Mandela is a national hero, the father of the nation, you do not muck with that.

There is a reason why you hear about them going these days, but if you have paid attention, the we have gone and done is no longer that common.

They are such cowards.

They would quickly learn that the 1st Amendment doesn't protect them in South Africa and, given the outpouring of love and admiration the entire South African nation has shown for Mandela, their safety would in question.

I actually hope they go. I suspect either they would be imprisoned for domestic terrorism or the mob would have their way with them. I am opposed to violence of any kind but this is one time when I wouldn't mind seeing the Westboro folks roughed up a little bit (or maybe more than just a little bit).

They are despicable creatures. As a gay man I believe the senior Phelps is actually a closeted homosexual but cannot stand himself and so he lashes out. I couldn't imagine any man (or woman) wanting to date or be intimate with him.....Yuck!!!!

An old Victorian pattern called: The Haters' Staircase.

If you watch, you can see the tight, dry facial muscles, the manic eyes, the forced, wide grin...You can actually see how impatient she is to witness others suffer in the "afterlife".

Then finally others can suffer more deeply than the suffering her daddy administered on the clan.

At least don't give them the satisfaction of a Google Alert.

Call them the Homophobes from Topeka, WB Jerks, W*e*s*t*b*o*r*o Church...

anything, but don't use their complete name.

BTW, I drove by their place on Saturday. Their sign had some nonsense about Pearl Harbor being God's wrath for f*gs.

BTW, for those who haven't seen it, a group has taken advantage of the Phelps' destruction of property values, and bought a house next door:

This photo shows how close the two are:
