Members of the worlds oldest faith would like to join a display of religious symbols at Oklahomas state capitol, joining a Judeo-Christian tablet and a proposed Satanist monument.
The Universal Society of Hinduism plans to submit an application to the Oklahoma State Capitol Preservation Commission for permission to place a statue of Lord Hanuman on the statehouse grounds.
If the Oklahoma State Capitol was open to different monuments, we would love to have a statue of Lord Hanuman, who was greatly revered and worshipped and known for incredible strength and was (a) perfect grammarian, said Rajan Zed, president of Universal Society of Hinduism.
State Rep. Mike Ritze (R-Broken Arrow) contributed $10,000 and raised an additional $10,000 in private funds to erect a 7-foot monument to the Ten Commandments last month on the statehouse grounds.

(36,827 posts)They could actually give a fuck less what happens in OKC as they do their own thing. Some of the tribes are even issuing marriage licenses to gay couples right in Oklahoma and collectively giving a big fuck you to all the haters in the capital building.

(4,973 posts)and teabaggers in government to place a statue to their faith in front of each capitol building and courthouse. Maybe then those asses would get the message that separation of church and state is there for everyone's protection - or maybe they're just too self-centered and stupid to get it.

(30,252 posts)The Flying Spaghetti Monster reminds me of Bertrand Russell's teapot or Carl Sagan's garage dragon. No real canon to speak of, although I understand they're working on such with the Second Edition of the Loose Canon. The Church of the SubGenius has demonstrated a workable model for doctrine, outreach, tent revivals, and even its own "gospel" music industry.
That said, I know the Futurama folks have a soft spot for the FSM, too.

(145,154 posts)This has some promise of being fun.
Once the Oklahoma Lege approved putting the Ten Commandments on the grounds of the State Capitol, that opened the door big and wide for other religions to have tributes to their beliefs. The first to apply? The New York based Satanic Temple, of course.
They are submitting a plan for a $20,000 designs. The Ten Commandments tribute was only $10,000, the but Satanic one will include an interactive display for children. That alone caused three semi-serious cases of the heart flutters in Oklahoma and one suicide attempt.
And while I will enjoy this process, I think it would have been so much more fun if the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster had applied.
