Megyn Kelly has a message for all the children staying up past bedtime to watch "The Kelly File:" Santa is white.
The Fox News host on Wednesday discussed a Slate piece written by Aisha Harris, in which Harris detailed the effect of seeing the local mall's white Santa in contrast with her family's black Santa.
"By the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white but this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa," Kelly said. "Santa is what he is and just so you know, we are debating this because someone wrote about it, kids."
Kelly said Harris "seems to have real pain" because of growing up around images of a white Santa, but argued the article "goes off the rails" when Harris suggests that a penguin serve as a new, more inclusive symbol of the holiday.
"Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change," Kelly said. "Jesus was a white man, too. He was a historical figure. That's a verifiable fact -- as is Santa. I just want the kids watching to know that. My point is, how do you just revise it in the middle of the legacy of the story and change Santa from white to black?"

(16,191 posts)Nikolaos of Myra, aka Nikolaos the Wonderworker, aka "Saint Nicholas" (the real person who sparked the Santa Claus story) was born in the Greek city of Patara, in Lycia. Patara was founded and primarily inhabited by settlers (and their descendants) from the island of Crete, and it self-identified as a "Greek" city until it fell to the Turkish invasion in the 11th century.
The real Santa Claus would have hated the North Pole
And he probably would have looked something like this old Greek dude:
I tend to think Turk, but Greek sounds good.

(16,191 posts)In spite of its name, the Turks are not native to Turkey, and the Turkish people and culture weren't introduced to the Anatolian peninsula until the great Turkic migrations began after the 6th century, and didn't really become dominant until the Seljuks in the 11th century.
The original St. Nick lived in the 4th century, over two centuries before the first Turk set foot in Turkey.
He was Greek.

(15,262 posts)Santa is a very important tool of the white overlords.
Seriously, it is time to kill Santa, literally. Santa reinforces the importance of rich children who get lots of really special, expensive toys while their poor age peers get almost nothing except the love of their parents. Make sure your children know Santa is just a story and a game to play. You don't want them growing up believing Santa thinks rich kids are better than they are!

(15,938 posts)When Archie meets Henry Jefferson for the first time and they discuss religion and whether God is white or black. It went like this:
Archie: Take that dago artist who painted Him on that ceiling in Rome?
Henry: You mean that 'white' dago artist who painted him?
Archie: But every picture I've ever seen He was white.
Henry: Well maybe you were looking at the negative.

Not at all the European-looking depiction painted on most churches.

(19,429 posts)The indigenous population on the eastern shore of the Med was maybe a little paler than it is today, but the gene pool hasn't changed a lot from then to the current Palestinians. It was darkened a little by the Arabs and lightened a little by the Crusaders.
Besides, Christ and the Christian religion is mainly a Greco-Roman invention in the 4th Century after it became the state religion of the Roman Empire. The first council of Nicea in 325 CE is a good starting point. The Roman Empire's capital was Constantinople, now Istanbul, and Nicea is just a little southeast of there.
Saint Nick, as noted above, was a Greek living 270 to 343 CE.
