Megyn Kelly Gets The WaPo Treatment
By Charles P. Pierce at 11:30am
Today's Washington Post -- which features an op-ed by kindly Doc Maddow, whom I hope managed to avoid getting any Thiessen on her in the process -- sends a heartfelt holiday greeting to Fox News news-reader Megyn Kelly. I would advise wearing a raincoat while reading it, however.
"It's like working on a supermodel every day - a brilliant supermodel," says makeup artist Maureen Walsh, as she air-brushes Kelly's skin from milky white to Technicolor. The small makeup room is hot from the blow dryer. (Ed Note: Not from the blow dryer, I'm thinking.) Pen in hand, Kelly, a former corporate lawyer, reads an article headlined "For Democrats in 2014, the Web site is still the problem," her eyes zipping over text as Maureen smudges heavy plum-colored eye shadow on her lids.
Anyway, the whole piece goes on like that, making the case that Kelly, a 43-year old former corporate attorney, is the rising star who can talk to the young. (It also makes the slightly contradictory argument that nobody tells Kelly who she is, and that she had a personal revelation about who that is in a conversation with Roger Ailes.) Unfortunately for the Post, which must have spent hours turning a fire hose on the reporter when he was done, Kelly marked the occasion by having some interesting things to say about Santa...and Jesus.
But on Wednesday, Kelly decided that Harris had gone "off the rails" with her column. "For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white," Kelly said. "But this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is...Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change, you know?" she added. "I mean, Jesus was a white man too. He was a historical figure, that's a verifiable fact, as is Santa - I just want the kids watching to know that."
Yeah, she's the smart one.
