1. Grammys to Salute the Beatles With Two-Hour Special in February

Dec 2013
Show will feature 'today's top artists'

The Grammy Awards will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' landmark performance on The Ed Sullivan Show with a two-hour special that will air on CBS. The program, titled The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles, will be broadcast at 8 p.m. EST on February 9th, 50 years to the day, date and time that John, Paul, George and Ringo made their U.S. TV debut on Sullivan's show. More than 70 million viewers tuned in to that broadcast to watch the band play five songs, including "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You." The band won seven Grammys in their career.

The 100 Greatest Beatles Songs

The program will be filmed on January 27th, the day after the Grammy Awards, and it will feature "today's top artists" performing the songs the group played on the Sullivan broadcast, as well as their hits through the years. Presenters, who are yet to be announced, will provide commentary and context about the group's impact at the time. The show will also include archival clips and rebroadcast footage from the Sullivan show.

"The Beatles are one of music's most iconic groups, who won their first two Grammys, including one for Best New Artist, in 1964 — the same year they took America by storm," said Neil Portnow, President and CEO of the Recording Academy, the group that puts on the Grammy Awards. "As the Grammy Awards are 'Music's Biggest Night,' it's only fitting that we recognize this milestone moment in music history and pay tribute to this larger-than-life group and their enduring music and legacy."

Tickets to the taping will be available to the general public. Additional info, including which artists will perform and the celebrities who will attend, has yet to be announced.

2. 3 generations on and The Beatles still rule the roost..

Timeless, brilliant, lovable... The absolute truth is those 4 cats changed the world literally, through music. No one will ever even come close to what they did and still do...

There are a few things that span generations, things that I loved as a kid and still love as an adult and that my kids have come to love as much as I do, and their kids will probably love it too.. The Beatles, Calvin and Hobbes, Mad Magazine, and now that they are a little older I have introduced them to the wonder known as Richard Pryor...

got to be old enough, and then started again. It's funnier now than it ever was, way more political too.. My kids are almost grown but we still have a subscription and will probably renew it again! The "Worst of 2013" issue just came to us. Congress was the #1 worst thing of 2013 according to Mad. I think they are right.

4. Kids and music…the best….:)

We are grandparents with music going on in the background all the time…our 11 y.o….
grandson knows the Beatles by their voices, Tom Petty by his voice and Chuck Berry and Bo Diddly
by their style.

Our 5 1/2 y.o. granddaughter is pretty consistent on the Beatles, we believe by style and voice
and same with Tom Petty.

Both have interest in current music and since we ask them to identify by artist, they ask us to
do the same with their current favorites.

Keeps this musical family on it's toes.

9. When my son was about six years old

I had to cook him "dad meals" (fish sticks and canned corn...) while his mom was in the hospital. One night when it was uncommonly quiet at the table I decided to put on some background music. I randomly chose Rubber Soul, pressed play, and rejoined my son at the table. About four songs in I noticed his eating had ceased and he was pondering something. At one point he gazed up at me and asked "Dad, what is this?". I said "it's the Beatles". He paused and then said "it's good!". Yep, transcendent art.
