There is a side of modern culture that gives me a whiff of auschwitz. This is part of that.

we are being played!

I believe the father who is in the lower picture is missing, from the white shirt family picture.

This is a normal rich family, that were turned into hillbillies to come up with a modern beverly hillbillies storyline.

This is all part of the script..

We'll have redeeming specials with Oprah, Katie, and maybe even a hug with Elton John! Ratings Ratings Ratings...

I only watched bits and pieces once, but I had the same suspicion, because the ladies were too " well done " and spoke differently. Didn't fit who they were saying they were.

were never a "normal rich family" remade into Hillbillies.

they were dirt poor before they started their duck call business and earned their money that way.

Phil was an alcoholic. His wife wanted to save the family and the marriage, so she referred him to their pastor for counseling.

As I've seen so many times with so many alcoholics, they often end up trading one addiction (booze) for another (religion).

They are not stupid, evil people. They are dealing with inner demons, and, sadly, some of them are too vulnerable to the worst parts of religion and end up believing some distasteful things.

That clean cut photo is from way earlier days.

And what the photo doesn't show is the alcohol abuse and infidelity.

The Robertsons are not Ward and June Cleaver. They're not The Brady Bunch.

And, from an article I read earlier, it seems the producers of the show need the Robertsons more than the Robertsons need them.

The ratings are through the roof.

If they kick Phil off the show, the rest of the family might also say "Adios", and where will the producers be then?

I bet he'll be back.

If not, then the show will go away...in which case, I expect lots of cheering from people who also think it's perfectly fine to tell business owners what networks they should be showing on their own TVs. Censorship at its most disgusting worst.

The old, "I don't like this, therefore you shouldn't be seeing it, either" game.

ugh

He is the stereotype of the "good ole boy" redneck that I remember growing up (though they are similar elsewhere besides the South). I would have been considerably shocked if he hadn't turned out to be this way...

The caricature that they attempted to create on the reality show--just struck the reality.
