New Mexico Supreme Court: same-sex marriage legal

http://www.koat.com/news/new-mexico/state-supreme-court-rules-samesex-marriage-legal-in-new-mexico/-/9153762/23566174/-/5ek1g7/-/index.html

SANTA FE, N.M. —The state Supreme Court has ruled same-sex marriage to be legal in New Mexico.

The court deemed the term "civil marriage" to mean the voluntary union of two persons.

It ruled that all rights, protections and responsibilities that result from the marital relationship shall apply equally to both same-gender and opposite-gender married couples.

Under any of the New Mexico statutes, rules, regulations or common law, whenever a reference is made to marriage, husband, wife, spouse, family, immediate family, dependent, next of kin, widow, widower or any other word, which, in context, denotes a marital relationship, the same shall apply to same-gender couples who have chosen to marry.

Our local Democratic Party of Otero County has already voted for our hosting a forum, "Marriage Equality" for March or April -We have the second annual 'We Trust Women Roe v Wade Commemoration and Celebration' for Jan 18 and will co produce "The Vagina Monologues" in Feb...maybe One Billion Rising, again in Feb. We had already decided to hold this consciousness raising forum after the NM Supreme Court already had the hearing. No one knew when their decision would come down. It is celebration, woo-woo time in our land of enchantment.
