Hopefully everyone will gather around their Solstice tree for the sacrificial fruitcake eating and hot wine drinking ceremony tonight.
I look forward to this all year long. It's second only to the ritualistic Summer Solstice hat dancing festival in Akron every year.
Come back, Mother Sun. Absolve us of our sins.

(26,262 posts)I always think of the Winter Solstice as the REAL New Year's Eve. Given the weather forecast, we might be celebrating by candle light, tonight. Which would make it a pretty traditional way to celebrate. We might skip the whole tree thing, though, since ice storms and trees are not a good combination.

A good Solstice to stay inside with a Loved One,
two cats,
curled up by the fire,
reading a good book.
I hope everyone's Solstice is as peaceful as the one we are enjoying here.

Kidding aside, wasnt the Yule 3 or 4 days AFTER the winter solstice to celebrate the return of the sun?

(1,423 posts)to me how many of these pagan practices were adopted by Christians in their birthday celebration.. But were they really adopted or just never let go of?
