(8,028 posts)So, is today the shortest day of the year with tomorrow being longer?... or was that yesterday, and today will be slightly longer?
TYY
the shortest day of the year means the days get longer from here.
The 2013 winter solstice arrives at 12:11 p.m. EST time today, Dec. 21, marking the shortest day of the year in Earth's Northern Hemisphere in terms of the time from sunrise to sunset.

(8,028 posts)...and tomorrow will be longer. I wasn't sure since you mentioned that on this day, daylight was growing longer. I thought you meant that today would be longer than yesterday.
Thanks elleng. Sorry if it seems like I'm being a goon.

(8,028 posts)The actual first day that is longer (by one second) is December 25; according to this chart at sunrisesunset.com.
Anyway, thanks for the sunset pic, elleng. Your post has me dreaming of longer, warmer days...

I just got a new laptop and am closing in on how to post my pics on the net. It won't be Sunsets on the Ocean though because I live on the Eastside of the Island.. but, there will be interesting shots.

(130,895 posts)Got the thought yesterday, Dad loved Hawaii, after first experienced at Pearl (as a legal officer.) Took us there after my h.s. graduation. Now that I've got a grandbaby (1 week old) (and may have more,) thought of bringing the family there, in a couple of years (IF my daughters are speaking to eachother at that point.) So let's stay tuned, OK???!!!

(50,983 posts)I've been a fisherman since I can remember, in Ohio. It's far away from salt water or tidal rivers as in Maryland. But for me, the water has a special appeal.

(15,537 posts)I'm starting my Sunday morning with coffee and listening the the symphony and looking at your gorgeous picture, trying to picture standing there enjoying it in person. I would never want to walk away from that -just pull up a lawn chair and enjoy.
Thanks for posting this for those of us in the drizzly ice storm in Michigan.

(130,895 posts)Its warm enough to pull up a lawn chair today! I never do want to walk away from it!
May get serious rain tomorrow, so may head toward town (and friends there,) but I never do want to leave this place!
