New CNN poll on the health care law

Poll: Support For Obamacare Dips To Record Low

Americans' support for the Affordable Care Act has reached a record low, according to a new poll, continuing a recent trend of poor poll numbers for President Barack Obama and his signature legislative accomplishment.

A CNN/ORC International poll released Monday showed support for Obamacare dropped five points in less than a month, to 35 percent. Opposition to the law is up four points from November, to 62 percent.

As CNN noted, virtually all the newfound opposition to the health care law came from women. Sixty percent of women now oppose the law, up from 54 percent in November. In contrast, opinion of the law remained unchanged among men.

The survey also seemed to show less optimism towards the law: 42 percent said they would be personally worse off under Obamacare, and 63 percent said they believed the law would increase the amount of money they personally pay for medical care.

CNN makes this point, "Sixty-two percent say they oppose the law, up four points from November."

The change: "too liberal" is up two points, "not liberal enough" is up one point, and "no opinion" is up three points.

Another point: "Sixty percent of women now oppose the law, up from 54 percent in November."

Strange? I mean what would cause support to drop nine points among women and opposition to increase six points?

Here's what changed: "not liberal enough" climbed from 13 percent to 18 percent. "Too liberal" remains at 37 percent. There was an increase in "no opinion."

Still here are the details about opposition:

Question 21/22
Q.21 As you may know, a bill that makes major changes to the country's health care system became
law in 2010. Based on what you have read or heard about that legislation, do you generally favor
or generally oppose it?
Q.22 Do you oppose that legislation because you think its approach toward health care is too
liberal or because you think it is not liberal enough?

I created the following chart of the results for specific demographics.

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2013/images/12/23/cnn.orc.poll.health.care.pdf

It's strange that 12 percent of "liberals" consider the law "too liberal." That's up two points from the last poll.

Interestingly, from November 2012 to December 2013:

"oppose too liberal" climb from 37 percent to 43 percent (up 6 points)

"oppose not liberal enough" climb from 9 percent to 15 percent (up 6 points)

(See the chart on page 2 of the PDF)

Apparently, more Americans, especially women, want single payer.

Since the ACA was signed into law, CNN's poll trend shows that the majority favor the law or doesn't think it goes far enough ("NLE" = Not Liberal Enough):

Especially on the "too liberal" side. The same people who have always opposed it, still oppose it.

I think the interesting bit is the 13% of self-described conservatives that think it is "not liberal enough." It balances out the 12% of liberals who think the plan is "too liberal."

Personally, I think 12 - 13% of the American people just like being contrary.

to how or what the public 'feels' or 'thinks' about it.

'Majority of Americans THINK Obamacare will cause their premiums to go up'

'Majority of Americans THINK Obamacare is a disaster'

Americans think a lot of stupid shit, but it doesn't make it factually true.

Too bad some people are too stupid to realize what a sham this kind of reporting is.
