Recent Jury

For what i believe is only the second time, i served on a jury in which all 6 voted leave it alone AND made a comment. Been on plenty of unanimous decisions, (positive and negative) but rarely has every one of the 6 posted a comment as well.

Thing is, all 6 of the comments practically said the same thing.

Maybe a function of the whether the alert seems frivolous, i guess.

At Fri Dec 27, 2013, 09:03 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

Thank God the Republicans won't let him!!!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4235803

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Literally saying we should elect more Republicans.

Sarcasm implied, probably, but...

Literally saying we should elect more Republicans.

= hide

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Dec 27, 2013, 09:08 AM, and the Jury voted 0-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: If you don't like the heat don't order the habanero salsa. If you have a question why somebody
posted something post the? or send them a p. mail. don't just alert on stuff that shouldn't be alerted
on because that can kill DU's early warning alert system.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's obvious sarcasm. Obvious to anyone with no bias anyway.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I understand a lot of people don't get sarcasm. But I see no reason to hide it because of that.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I voted to hide before I read it in context. It's pretty obvious this is meant to be sarcasm. Leave it.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I think the sarcasm intended is obvious.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Does this really need a sarcasm smiley? Good Lord, the alerter must be missing their sense of humor.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

9. Sorry, I Should Have Linked

The others who posted and linked one had another similar experience.

For this one, a person reacated to the New Jersey shooting by saying "Enough" and wanted a clean sweep of guns. Sure, it was hyperbole, because we know there's no practical way to take away all guns. But, the post was alerted because "it made us look bad" and "was the reason why we can't win elections". Since Obama was just re-elected 13 months ago, the alert made no sense.

All six jurors agreed.

14. more like the clientelism you see in 19th-c. Latin America

you look at clientelist Brazil 1880 and you see politics being conducted very much like our parties are going today; the US has always had yeoman farmers, plus sustainable slaves/sharecroppers, so our economic configuration's different

and we don't have machine parties anymore, but a multi-centric one (GOP, divided into right-libertarians, corporatists, fundies, and militarists, each with camarillas fighting within them) and a stratified one (Dems--workers, women, homosexuals, Blacks, dog rescuers at the bottom, then state-level, then a strictly-controlled national system that renders politics vacuous and stifles movements from below AND reformers from above)
