A&E Reverses Decision to Suspend Phil Robertson
-snip-
Read the full statement from A&E below:
As a global media content company, A+E Networks core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into peoples home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.
That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phils comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the coarse language he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would never incite or encourage hate. We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.
But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one mans views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.
We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

(27,787 posts)views to be bigoted nonsense. That hurts Phil's feelings. So please, please tolerate Phil's misguided ignorance. Only you can stop the LGBT supporting bigots from calling out Phil's ignorant bigotry. After all, Phil rarely leaves the swamp. And the toxic sludge stuck in his beard has caused him significant brain damage. We at A&E thank you for your attention to this matter, and we hope watching Phil and his family reminds you of just how lucky you and your family are."

(32,023 posts)Geez. Every channel (A&E, Discovery, Bravo) that used to have wholesome programming has devolved into derivative reality crap in the name of PROFIT. Sad that it's actually possible ot profit off trash like Duck Dynasty or Jersey Shore.

A&E, you're showing your tolerance for minorities alright. I sure am glad I don't have cable or satellite TV, which means I don't have to wade through your bullshit programming anymore. I hope some A&E sponsors jump ship for better TV. I hope A&E get's blacklisted and loses their asses.

(36,974 posts)I'm sure lots of folks will disagree with me but I think he and his family are not racists
Phil has a bi-racial grandson.
Phil's son Willie and his wife adopted him as a baby at one month old over a decade ago.
And Willie and his wife also have an adopted daughter from Taiwan.

(36,974 posts)But I am looking forward to hearing what he says in the future as far as what he and the family will say to unite folks and promote tolerance.
He has a huge audience and wouldn't it be great if he speaks out 'against hate' and 'against intolerance' etc.
This whole nasty situation could end up doing some good in the end.
Time will tell.
Well how old is this guy anyway? 67? or 17?
To say something like he's never seen blacks oppressed and never saw hatred aimed towards blacks, I mean, the guy must have either lived a sheltered life or lived in a cave for most of his life.
I'm 61 y.o., and know how blacks, and other minorities were treated and talked down to in the 60's and 70's. This guy has probably never read a history book or done any research before making as broad a statement or statements that he did. I also know how women were treated at home and in workplaces. It's evident he knows nothing about gays either, to be making statements like those. I know of some gays who attend churches and consider themselves to be Christians. There must be several types of Christians in his little mind.
His ignorance is astounding.

(36,974 posts)I'm not going to strongly defend what he said and how he said it, but he was talking about his 'personal experience' about people he knew - he was poor at the time and worked with other poor folks in a rural area.
I was alive in the 60s and 70s and I never 'personally' witnessed mistreatment of blacks or anyone else in my hometown - saying that does not mean that it did not occur when I wasn't present or that it didn't occur elsewhere.
Just my two cents.

(347 posts)I don't know how you can hold a masters degree and spout the garbage that fell from his lips.
I grew up in Chicago, and personally witnessed whites talking smack against blacks, I even witnessed dirty looks whites would give blacks, and of course being in the hot bed during the '68 Chicago riots living in the middle of it, there were many whites who held a lot of animosity towards blacks during and after that time. I'd heard the N word used so many times, it was quite disturbing because at the time, I was only 16 y/o/ and was a bit confused as to what was happening. I attended public schools and we had some minorities in our classrooms, and we were separated by fear of one another. I never understood why, until later in life. We were afraid of what each of us was about. Afraid of dialogue. What to say, how to say it.
I left Chicago in '69 and returned in '74, and made many new friends, quite a few were not whites, mostly blacks, Puerto Rican Americans, Mexican Americans and a few Japanese Americans. In fact, myself and another white were the minority in our group. We seemed to all get along very well, and never allowed our difference in skin pigmentation to get in the way of debates we would sometimes have with one another. We hung out together, drank together, dined together, burned dubies together and slept together.
I find it difficult to believe that a 67 year old man has never seen or heard disparaging comments toward a minority. Hard for me to believe.

(28,552 posts)... or the ones he has already said. I choose the one he has already said.
And I don't care if he adopted 10 black kids, he is a fucking racist and his words are clear as day on this point.

(347 posts)Na, they'd probably try to pray the gay away. <insert sarcasm>
If the old man is a bigot, the rest of the family might also hold some of the same views too. Look at Ron Paul and son Rand, a chip off the old bigot block.

(84,711 posts)or not? It went on for over a week...
Were we gamed or not...if A&E is going to continue the show with all the cast.
Did we think we could do what we did with Don Imus and others? We must no longer have that power....or do we? Did the MSM get wise as to how to play us Liberals as toys or not?

(67,108 posts)to stand up for the bullshit America professes to the rest of the world. And $$$$$ rules. A&E knows it's going to hurt their pocketbook. Now, all the homophobes and racists can declare open season on gays and blacks. We, are pathetic. And the rest of the world is seeing elements of America as they are. They come for the gays and blacks, and next will be you!

(31,388 posts)The show resonates with a large audience of bigots and racists. Period.
because, A&E didn't know the bigot was taped in 2010 making homophobic comments? I find that hard to believe too, that A&E would knowingly hire someone to do a series, with information like that, so, they must be pandering to bigots and racists, it's the only explanation for A&E. Someone at A&E either didn't research this person and family, or it's just as you say, it resonates with the like.

Let them become a fucking bigot wasteland, see how well that works for their ad revenues in that saturated market. Get their hands on some of that sweet, sweet boner-pill-and-gold-scam money.
