(Redding, CA) Civic auditorium operator tells longtime food distribution program to relocate
The Redding Civic Auditorium operator is no longer allowing Shasta Senior Nutrition Programs to distribute food for low-income county residents in its parking lot, causing the monthly distribution to relocate to Saturdays at a new location after more than three decades at the auditorium.
The center has used the auditoriums parking lot for about 33 years to distribute commodities from the U.S. Department of Agricultures food program to low-income people of all ages on one Friday every month. Usually between 600 and 800 families receive canned fruits, meats and other food at the monthly event, said Food Bank Manager Marilyn Hanna.

Hanna did not want to specify why Advance Redding which runs the civic auditorium stopped the food distribution, but she said it may have needed that Friday for other things. It wasnt our choice, she said. They wouldnt let us do it there anymore.
Messages left for Advance Redding on Tuesday were not returned. The nonprofit is a subsidiary of Bethel Church. The city of Redding is leasing the civic auditorium to Advance Redding for the time being.
