This morning my snow blower, which has ALWAYS started, refuses to spark. So, I've notified my manager that the odds of my showing up to work are pretty slim. Hopefully I can get the driveway cleared long enough to get out, tomorrow.

The didn't declare a state of emergency, in Genesee County, which is ridiculous. The county official said it's up to the governor. The governors says it's up to the county. Honestly, they are risking people's lives and property over a pissing contest!

Gah, I used to hate un-burying my car and chipping off the ice. My car is a garage dweller now, but my son's car doesn't fit, so he is well-acquainted with the scraper.

I have a Saturn wagon in the garage. I'm leaving the snow on that one to, hopefully, insulate it a little during this arctic cold snap.

It's pretty stressful being totally blocked in, if there was an emergency.

I hate shoveling... but I hate the feeling of being trapped even more, so I shovel.

I get claustrophobic when I can't get out.

Fortunately when I shoveled on Saturday it wasn't horribly cold here!!! (I am in southeast Pennsylvania.)

is that what would amount to a couple hundred pounds on top of your car? Will that cause damage? Roof, hood, shocks? Hope your electric is running or you have a fireplace going. Hunker down.

15. No, that snow would be pretty light and fluffy

given how cold it is according to the OP.

But even the heavier, wet snow of warmer temps would not cause damage. Well, not to the car... One's back and arms are another matter entirely during cleanup of the wet, heavy stuff.

even though it is bizarrely warm here right now. 40 above and raining!... Really, really strange weather pattern going on... Just 2 days ago, it was -23 (actual temp, not windchill). I even posted about it. Now, only what- approx. 48 hours later, it is 63 degrees warmer.

Cold front moving in tonight though, which means the roads will be an icy mess in the morning. It's pouring out right now.

Bundle up, and good luck staying warm! It's hard to get the chill out of your bones when it gets that cold.

I'll probably have to go out again, at least once or twice, to make sure there are no big drifts forming on the driveway. Fortunately, the snow is piled so high on both sides, the snow should, for the most part, blow across the driveway instead of on to it.

I got lucky here, on the west side of the state. We got only about two inches here.

My sister called from Detroit. She's snowed in, too.

is going to work with that much snow.

If you have a spare spark plug for your blower, try installing that. It might be all you need to get it going. If not, remove the old one and clean it well. That might get you going, too. Sorry.

18. I have a guardian angel neighbor who just cleared my driveway
Mon Jan 6, 2014, 01:25 PM

It's so heartening to see all of the neighbors pitching in and helping each other out. I live in a great neighborhood.

We ended up getting well in excess of 16 inches. One of the neighbors, who has a truck with a plow, cleared some of the road so people can get in and out (supposedly). And the ones who are plowing their driveways are clearing straight across to the opposite curb. I think the mess at the end of the driveways will be greatly reduced.

I will check the spark plug. It worked great, yesterday! Fortunately we aren't supposed to get more snow, but the blowing and drifting will still be a problem.
