(111,391 posts)I've always said we might be closer to gender equality when men start to wear underwire briefs and we have a cheap restaurant chain called Peckers wherein comely male servers are clad in tuxedo tops and Speedos.
Don't bother flaming me, you usual suspects, this is tongue in cheek. I don't like seeing either sex used as meat on a hook to entice customers.
However, equal is equal. Think about it.

(20,176 posts)Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, has on at-least two occasions that I known of, had it all hanging out. Given, Mr. Nairn is perhaps not the dong they wanted to see...he's a rather large man at 6'10" and on the high side of 400 lbs but nevertheless...Hodor!

(20,176 posts)We want to see dick on cable TV. (There is dick on cable TV.)
No, we want to see attractive dick on cable TV. (Who are we to ascertain standards of beauty?)
There's a disproportionate amount of female nudity. (We can have Kristian Nairn and Alfie Allen show off their goods more.)
No? (No.)
And so on.
There's a very short path here to dismiss their criticisms on the basis of objectification and unrealistic standards of beauty but I don't need to walk it.

(31,464 posts)We have all six or seven HBO's, all the Showtimes and Cinemax variations (never watch Cinemax, but we can't get rid of it), and I have to say, they actually DO show a lot of full frontal male nudity. Showtime certainly more than HBO. Maybe these women just have the wrong Premium package.
I really am not making any judgement about standards of beauty. I think Lena Dunham is as beautiful as Charlize Theron as is Michelle Rodriguez as is Kristen Shaal. Again, having never seen GoT, I can't really say anything serious about this guy. And honestly, I really was kidding. I could give a rat's patoot about seeing him naked. I could sit and have a beer with him naked. I have sat and had beers with plenty of naked people who were far less attractive than he is.

(135,425 posts)It wasn't prurient or anything like that--some idiot with a saggy ass was making coffee butt nekkid in the kitchen and he had his meat and two veg on display.
Maybe they listened...?
But they DO have a point. I have observed the blatant sexism in the apportionment of nudity on TV and it's just not realistic--I would prefer that they "infer" like in the old days, with roaring fires and blowing curtains, rather than do these tortured "Hide the Peenie" shots.
The only exception is that opening scene to Austin Powers--that took "Hide the Biz-niz" to a high art!
