It is still touch and go, but they think they might get him off the ventilator soon, and they're doing more MRI's but so far, there is not that much swelling on his brain.
I can't get there today. My brother and uncle are there, but this is the first day I am not. I have to get him registered for Medicare Part B, and need to make sure I choose a plan with acute inpatient rehab and skilled nursing, for his recovery. I am pretty sure I want to avoid Humana, because I am pretty sure they are Wal Mart, and he would not be cool with that. Al *ALL*.
Does anyone love their provider in particular? I am going to narrow it down to five and then run them by my brother and sister in order to get this done either tonight online or tomorrow.
I've never been down this road before though, so any advice and/or suggestions will be appreciated. I promise to take it all with a grain of salt.
I know I am going to demand in patient rehab and not 'drive him there' rehab. That part will be pretty important.
We don't know the extent of the damage to the stoke yet either, and he is battling a pulmonary embolism, so it is all hectic and crazy and whirl windy, and we should should have universal fucking health insurance because *NONE* of this should be this complicated. Rant off. Back to the salt mines on this one.
Thank you community. your words of support and messages to me meant more to me than you could ever know.

(9,791 posts)Initially her symptoms were pretty bad. Once some of the brain swelling eased up the symptoms weren't as severe. After a stint in in patient rehab she had some really good improvement. She never regained the full use of her right hand but they taught her how to use her left hand to compensate. She managed very nicely and was able to return to living alone and caring for her own needs. I hope your dad can return to being independent.
