It is possible Nuclear power could be made safe

But only the 1% could afford the electricity generated because it would cost 10 times as much to build.

The main reason new nuke power is having such a difficult time being built is not because of environmentalists, it is because bankers will not privately finance new construction. The bankers look at what can happen with so called nuke power "Too cheap to meter" and have decided that cheap is just plain BS.

So then I'm right about being wrong.

But the end result is the same. Nor could it be made safe, outside of a space ship, or station.

Not sure how close we are to fusion. Maybe someone more intelligent than I can fill us in on the details.

about a year ago i heard they had managed to create a controlled fusion reaction, but on a very small scale. i don't think we'll see a fusion plant any time within the next decade at least.
