NJ lawmaker calls for special session to continue Christie bridge investigation

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101323460

A New Jersey lawmaker called for a special session of the Assembly on Thursday to consider legislation that would allow the investigation to continue into Gov. Chris Christie's involvement in the monster traffic jams his former aides are accused of creating.

"The documents released this week related to the George Washington Bridge situation clearly show the need for a continued thorough investigation by the New Jersey General Assembly," Assembly Speaker-elect Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) said in a statement. "Many questions remain unanswered about this threat to public safety and abuse of power."

Prieto said he expects to call the Assembly into a special session on Thursday to consider legislation that would reauthorize subpoena power so the investigation can continue.

Christie is fighting for his second term, which he already thinks he won a couple of months ago. Forget the GOP race for the 2016 nomination, he has to establish that he can govern in the second term the way he did in the first one, and the Legislature now sees him as severely weakened by this.

My prediction: He drops out of 2016, because he knows Hillary's got it anyway. That allows him to say that 100% of his focus is on getting things right for NJ. If he can pull that off, then he knows he's got another shot in 2020.
