LOL. Why would a right-leaning city, which reports low crime accept $84,000 Homeland security money?

This city always struck me as out there, and it keeps getting stranger every year.

Winter Springs, other small cities set up surveillance cameras

...it's no surprise that police in large cities use surveillance cameras to help keep an eye on the public. In fact, the devices last year helped identify the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

But now a growing number of smaller communities, such as Winter Springs, are starting to set up networks of surveillance cameras to help police keep an eye out for trouble and possible terrorist activities at parks, public buildings, neighborhoods and water-treatment facilities.

Winter Springs — a Seminole County city of about 35,000 residents — has accepted an $84,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which it will use to put surveillance cameras in place. In recent years, Homeland Security has doled out tens of millions of dollars to help cities set up such systems.

"It's a great tool for law enforcement," Winter Springs Capt. Mike Noland said about the cameras. "We realize that we're a mostly suburban area … But unfortunately we do have crime."

I believe they think the shit will hit the fan because of the things this city got away with in the past.

An over-reaction, if you ask me. Most of the people who were capable of doing the kind of rash things that right-wingers are known for, are long over the hill. LOL!

that if this type of funding is available and is not used, next year's budget will be cut. So, whether needed or not, it's a matter of use it or lose it.

to be against government intrusion welcome this kind of attention?

The answer in my opinion: because this local government is heavily influenced by community leaders and the usual suspects know the police will be selective about whose indiscretions will be prosecuted.
