The war on poverty was nothing more than a skirmish.
Some folks had no food, no jobs, no hope.
LBJ created jobs in Appalachia that some called "Happy Pappy" programs. They paid about $75 dollars per week but that was like a million dollars to some folks.
Unfortunately, that was not enough to put a lot away for a rainy day. And it was difficult to get educated with that type of money. But, it permitted many people to survive. Is that what we define as a failure? Why did all that money fail to win the war on poverty?
The jobs kept moving and the wages kept going down. Where one person could make enough pay to take care of his family, through the magic of "inflation", it took two people to make what one person used to make. What some called "progress" was really no more than inclusion in their scam on the working classes of America.
Now, some politicians are calling the "war on poverty" a failure. Indeed, it was the politicians that failed us. They sold off our manufacturing plants and put millions of people out of work and put millions more into jobs with poverty wages. And they wonder why the "war" was a failure...
