(12,693 posts)Serious question. Now that recreational use is legal, do those convicted and sentenced get the charges reversed, or records expunged or is it "sorry, your timing was bad, dude."
I know it would be more complicated than than just opening the gates, but how does this work within the framework of the law? Something for which many people went to jail for a very long time is suddenly legal; what is the recourse of those who may still have many years remaining to serve for something no longer a crime?

(3,156 posts)you still can't sell it without a license. you cannot transport large amounts without a license. minors without a red card can't legally use it. nor can you use it in public places, and it's still a crime to drive under the influence of cannabis.

Our country is about to go down the wrong road, in the opposite direction of sound mental health policy, Patrick Kennedy, Project SAMs board chairman, said. Its just shocking as a public health issue that we seem to be looking the other way as this legalization of marijuana becomes really glamorous.
The idea is to halt the legalization movement by arguing the U.S. can ease the ills of prohibition such as the racial disparities in arrest rates and the lifelong stigma that can come with a pot conviction without legalizing the drug.
