(7,574 posts)I'm sick of Iowa too. Why not TEXAS first? That would really stir up a lot of publicity for everybody!

(177 posts)First and foremost, please thank your husband for his service to his country! Big Hugs for that.
But, I live in Hillary Clinton's hometown...just blocks from where she grew up. But, in the current system, I may not even get the chance to vote for her. If she runs, she'll get the nomination, I feel. But what if someone wanted to vote for someone else? Their voice may never be heard. It's wrong.

(13,877 posts)But then there is the stupid Electoral College...which isn't going anywhere. That and the Winner Take All option used by some states skews everything.

(177 posts)There has GOT to be a better and FAIRER way. I don't know why more people don't SCREAM about this..totally be left out of our democracy!

(13,877 posts)It's tantamount to having a third party...just not going to happen...seems. I know some states have moved up their primaries over the years for this purpose, but the "Iowa is First" has not been breached.
On Edit: The time zones make for interesting circumstances, as well...lived on the West Coast for decades.

(13,877 posts)to not go through the hassle because the winner was almost always known/called, as they say, and California always went Blue. I never did not vote because there were always other issues on the ballot, but as far as President, meh.
The idea was floated to forbid the news sources from calling winners in states after 1 or 2% of the votes were in, but that was futile. I mean, what would the news folks have to say for all those hours.
I personally believe that low turnout has much to do with all of this poll-taking and news technology and shameful boatloads of cash that people really think their vote doesn't much matter. And in the poorer/ethnic areas, polling places are hard to access, so someone slouches into Washington DC to be propped up by, small wonder, the MSM and the Money Boys/Girls.

(177 posts)We need to fix this! EVERY VOICE should be heard. EVERY VOTE should count!
