State of Idaho to hire professional hunters and trappers to target wolves

BOISE -- Commissioners with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game voted Thursday to enact a statewide plan that includes controversial measures for killing wolves.

Idaho's Revised Elk Management plan includes measures that would make it state policy to hire professional hunters and trappers to target wolves in select areas where biologists say too many elk are being killed by wolf packs.

Read the full plan here.

Game managers say elk populations in areas such as the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness have dropped dramatically over the last decade due in part to expanding wolf populations.

Dozens attended a public hearing Wednesday to voice their support for, or against the measures.

Read about their testimony here.

They remove enough wolves, they'll get more coyotes. Wolves are the only effective check on the coyote population.

Coyotes, by the way, are worse.
