be named after Khephra?
The man is legend on DU. I have only seen Skinner post a "tribute" to one DUer:

(24,886 posts)Like Skinner wrote, "he WAS LBN."
I learned about 911 from him: "Turn on your TV NOW!" he was amazing. We had some great late night chats in an old chat room-

I liked his little avatar and his sig pic. You always knew you were getting quality when you saw that.

(41,832 posts)He got as many locked as people do now. He was great, but not infallible.
JanMichael
(24,886 posts)Frankly, I had MFM on ignore.
No DUer is "infallible."
May I remind you that one of "DU's Greats" has posted at least 4 times over the past decade "I am leaving."
Another DU Lounge Great is banned.

(37,573 posts)but it seemed like he had ME on ignore.
I feel a little bit like Bender again.
"I don't even count....School would shut down if she didn't show up 'queenie isn't here'."
Yet the popular people are popular but they
"Don't know any of my friends, don't look at any of my friends, and certainly wouldn't condescend to speak to any of my friends."
But I have nothing against him or his friends. It just would be nice to be included.
Still, I expect that this name change is only temporary, that it will be back to the lounge again in a week or two.
And many of us, myself included are not "old" enough on DU to remember Khephra.
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)which means it should revert back to "The Lounge" later today.
MADem
(135,425 posts)His big strength wasn't so much his personality, it was that he reliably, every damn morning, got his ass up and posted a ton of news articles that really primed the pump for vigorous, purposeful discussions--no need to talk about breast feeding, the olive garden, who is being mean to whom, etc., when there was actual NEWS to discuss. He gave us that.
And he was a nice person, not mean, not self-aggrandizing...just a good individual.

MADem
(135,425 posts)He wasn't necessarily the most chatty DUer, but he was a strong contributor--he put up more LBN links than any ten people do nowadays. He found some quality links, too--he was a good "Latest News Editor" for the board.

MADem
(135,425 posts)That was down to him. I noticed his loss, greatly. I'm betting I wasn't alone.
I look forward to unhappycamper's stuff--he's pretty reliable at pulling up the defense-related dirt, which is an area of interest for me. But no one ruled the morning news cycle here, at least from my perspective, like kephra.

(27,985 posts)Many have shaped and help build this place. Kephra is among them.
Two others who I loved personally were Dookus/Monkeyfunk and OldLefyLawyer (?... Annette).

It's not an original idea --many DUers have asked for it over the years.

(8,554 posts)give him this link from last year when California Peggy spoke with him about setting up a Memorial Group:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2528683
I had to leave while that thread was still active and so many were involved in discussing the idea...adding name after name of good DUers who have passed away. Eight months later, when I finally returned home, the first thing I did after logging in here was search thru every possible forum where that group might be tucked away and was disappointed not to find it. Anyway, make sure that David sees the work that has already been done to gather everyone together; it should make it much easier for anyone who is tasked with setting up the new tribute group.
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)I'm approaching him with the idea of a group again because admin has not made a memorial page yet they saw the benefit of a short term memorial for MFM.
Perhaps California Peggy would like to ask again too.

(8,554 posts)I had to go on March 22, so I never got see what, if any, follow-up might have been done.
Personally, I think that such a group is long overdue. It seems that list has a name added every month, these days.

(50,557 posts)Andy was one of our earlier luminaries - he was one of the big drivers in helping us understand the evils of electronic voting machines. He got the cancer, and DU helped raise a lot of money for his treatment. The freepers decided to attack the man and contributed greatly to his untimely death. (Highly simplified, but google his name and you'll see...)

(37,573 posts)I though the Lounge lost a lot when the "night shift" threads of Heidi and the "day shift" threads of "Clint ??" stopped.
Maybe it was just me though. I sort of had a period where I was friends with some of the popular kids, like my "twin sister" (we joined DU on the same date) RevolutionaryActs04, and Southlandshari and the aforementioned Heidi, and the German girl who I only remember now by her real name, and Oedi and Gump sorta tolerated me.
But I left the lounge when the primaries kicked in, probably mid-2007, decided to get more 'serious' about politics. And when I randomly wander back it seems like "I don't know anybody here and nobody knows me."
Or maybe the trouble is, that they DO know me.
I think I have made some enemies in GD. Possibly.
And friends come and go, but enemies accumulate.
I'm glad you're still here, hfojvt.

(24,886 posts)It's odd how many people on DU are gone now, and how often I think about folks I never knew in "real life."
Do you remember "Playahata1?" All we knew about her was that her name was Robin, and she was an English prof. at a Florida university- and then we ran into one of her coworkers in the department at a gas station in a small town in Illinois. He filled us in (Cancer, how old she was, how much everyone liked her) on details we could never have known. Amazing.

(24,886 posts)there was a person named OlaftheWhite. Great writer. The admins, (Skinner, Elad and EarlG.) posted his articles-- he was extremely prolific.
He wrote that he had to have surgery for a brain tumor- I think. It was some type of brain surgery- and his last post was kind of a "goodbye if I don't live" type thing. I thought we would see him again in a month or so-
He never came back. No explanation, no one to tell anyone what happened.
NewYawker was the same thing- no one to tell anyone- one day she was just gone. So, I am glad there is a cohesive group on DU that is here that keeps in touch-- it means so much-
JNelson6563
(28,151 posts)Especially NewYawker, the welcomer of all! I'm glad too that many DUers have at least one DU pal who can let us know of big life changes.
We need to remember these losses and treat each other as if maybe tomorrow one of us could be gone.
