I wonder who this was meant to punish?
Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey exaggerated when he declared that unforeseen costs to the state were forcing him to cancel the new train tunnel planned to relieve congested routes across the Hudson River, according to a long-awaited report by independent Congressional investigators.
The report by the Government Accountability Office, to be released this week, found that while Mr. Christie said that state transportation officials had revised cost estimates for the tunnel to at least $11 billion and potentially more than $14 billion, the range of estimates had in fact remained unchanged in the two years before he announced in 2010 that he was shutting down the project. And state transportation officials, the report says, had said the cost would be no more than $10 billion.

Edited to add this (thought I had done):
Mr. Christie also misstated New Jerseys share of the costs: he said the state would pay 70 percent of the project; the report found that New Jersey was paying 14.4 percent. And while the governor said that an agreement with the federal government would require the state to pay all cost overruns, the report found that there was no final agreement, and that the federal government had made several offers to share those costs.(emphasis mine).
Saying it was 70% if it was less than 15 that's slightly more than a misstatement!

He disgusts me - always did.

So why did he not want the tunnel? Yeah, why not get everything out in the open?

the Port Authority. If only peripherally, nearly every story that's being looked at has some connection to the Port Authority. Even the Jersey City/Mayor Fulop aspect:
Jersey City plans to file a $400 million lawsuit against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, saying outdated and unfair tax agreements between the city and the bi-state agency have led the city to lose out on hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue.
The city also alleges that the Port Authority has refused to enter into tax agreements on many of the 32 properties it owns in Jersey City, agreements that would lead to an extra $1.3 million in tax revenue for Jersey City every year.

Now, I'm not nearly clever enough to connect all the dots, but someone is going to figure it out eventually.

(298,018 posts)Fulop of Jersey City, dorkzilla. Got to keep all the players straight.
So it looks like ol PA has been screwing Jersey City and the City decided to fight back.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says the Port Authority bullies and takes advantage of its host cities.
And, this is November last year!
I'm really pulling for him..
This is what Colin Reid(Crispy spokesman) had to say to Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop about the "yanking of access" Rachel did a show on him and all the documented help he was going to get from Christie for his transition and then he wouldn't endorse the gov so the access to a transition team got yanked).. I saw it on Rachel's show, paused it, and copied it down. It's disgusting..
"Mayor Fulop's words and actions must be viewed through the lens of partisan politics and his attempt to advance his own political agenda."
Can you imagine Mayor Fulop's reaction to that? Shite like this is precisely why Revenge for the Culture of Bully's ACTIONS is going to be so SWEET
Hope you can understand this.. I've been up all night but just can't seem to get myself to bed yet.

I'm waiting on some things promised from other people and they're dragging their feet. We're almost at the finishing line as far as getting it opened so I'm not surprised. It's still frustrating as hell, and like i said before not having a partner to share some of the tasks/responsibilities has been, shall we say, challenging
I will give myself a giant pat on the back for the fact that in spite of all the stress, I HAVE NOT STARTED SMOKING AGAIN, something everyone, including yours truly, predicted would happen. So at least as far as my bad old habit goes, I seem to be bulletproof.
