Joe and Mika attack Zimmer on MSNBC

"Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, self-described fans of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), attacked the mayor of Hoboken, N.J. Monday for alleging Christie's administration shook her down for Hurricane Sandy relief funds.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer alleged Saturday on MSNBC that Christie's lieutenant governor, Kim Guadagno, and one of Christie's cabinet members tried to pressure her into fast-tracking a proposed redevelopment project in her city in order to receive Sandy aid.

Scarborough and Brzezinski questioned Zimmer's credibility because she waited to come out with the allegation until months after the alleged shakedown. After an alleged encounter with Guadagno in May, Zimmer wrote in her personal diary that she was dismayed to find Christie "cut from the same corrupt cloth that I have been fighting for the last four years."

"If she's willing to go public and vouch for something that is corrupt, an administration that is corrupt, what does that say about her character?" Scarborough asked, referring to tweets Zimmer sent in praise of Christie. "She can't have it both ways."

I don't care if it has low ratings. Some great television programs have had low ratings. Now, I'm not in any way calling Joe "great." Not at all. But I'm not dismissing it to ratings. Name ONE OTHER MORNING PROGRAM that is actually relevent? Sure I disagree with a lot of Joe's bullshit, but Joe is actually an absentee host much of the time. He leaves when there is a feminist on, he leaves when the guest is "beneath him," he leaves when the producers know he'll lose his temper and make a bigger asshole of himself. Which means, he leaves a lot and allows better people to run his show. And when Joe is not there, it is a really good program. Really! Still leans right, but that doesn't bother me if the conversation and the points raised are valid and intelligent. It only gets stupid when Joe's sarcastic self is there.

What are my other choices? Cooking and Fashion on Today? Tourists screaming through the window at GMA? Fox & Friends being, uh...Fox & Friends? Even CNN is just another fluff celebrity gossip pop-culture show.

Really, of anything on in morning "drinking my coffee" time tv, nothing comes close to Morning Joe. Don't even get me started on that AM radio crap-show they call CSPAN. It's like listening to a late-night sports program while driving down 1-95 in North Carolina.

Think about it...MSNBC devotes it's entire morning (and then some) to RIGHT WING. Shows that should/could be on Fox. By allowing right-wingers like Joe a forum, they help insulate themselves from the critique Fox gets for being totally one-sided (which Fox is).

Besides...MSNBC is still owned by the mega-corporate-right-wing media. No sense shooting themselves in their own feet.

Zimmer said good things about the admin. On air she mentioned that many of her constituents are Christie supporters so maybe she was just bullshitting them. In any case, doesn't help now.

He was being groomed for a career in the BushCo administration. Dead Intern derailed those plans and he was forced to resign under cloud of scandal. But he had made friends with The Family, and was a good supportive foot soldier. In exchange for his quiet resignation, Dead Intern would go away and Joe would get to maintain some degree of "celebrity," which is all he ever really wanted. This also explains much of his bitter, ornery "fuck everybody" attitude on his program. He got away with murder...no one can touch him in his own mind.

15. Why didn't Joe and Mika reiterate Mayor Zimmer's statement
Mon Jan 20, 2014, 02:50 PM
Jan 2014

when Lisa M. Ryan, spokeswoman for Constable, said in her statement:

"Mayor Zimmer's allegation that on May 16, 2013, Commissioner Constable conditioned Hoboken's receipt of Sandy aid on her moving forward with a development project is categorically false."

Zimmer shot back:

"I'd be more than willing to testify under oath and – and answer any questions and provide any documents, take a lie detector test. And, you know, my question back to them is, "Would all of you? Would all of you be willing do that same thing, to testify under oath, to take a lie detector test?"

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/18/22351582-hoboken-nj-mayor-claims-chris-christie-camp-held-sandy-money-hostage

This happened on Steve Kornacki's show, on the same cable news network Joe and Mika has their show for chrissakes!

They're already burying Mayor Dawn Zimmer's challenge while promoting doubt that Zimmer can't really be trusted.

Sickening.

Why didn't Mayor Zimmer get into Guadagno's face and say that, "If you don't give me that money I will go straight to the press". Mika must have made this same statement at least 3 times.

Well Mika, if Zimmer had of said what you wanted her to say, chances are it would have been Zimmer who would have been facing corruption charges, not Guadagno. Guadagno would have then said that Mayor Zimmer tried to extort $300M from her by saying that if she didn't give Hobokon the money, she would go to the press and make up some story.

Joe, who she treats as some godlike figure. 10 minutes max and I change the channel. And Dead Intern Joe...yes, he knows how it works. Hypocrites, at the least.

And notice who has gotten the worst of the press coverage...Bridget Kelley and Dawn Zimmer. Republicans still reaching out for the women's votes apparently. All the men just melted into the background. Except the one who's willing to be bought off with immunity.

What kind of a show host does that to a regular panelist? I know Halperin is annoying because he's a bit smug but he's nothing like Scarface.

Thomas and Steve were very good and very calm. And Thomas really praised Steve's investigatory work. That musta been what pissed off Joe.

They DO have some good guests and it's interesting to watch the interplay. Tweety has been taking some indirect side swipes at the way some of the discussions have been going on that show. He watches and I hope he is their next guest. We all know Tweety will interrupt.
