As Pay for Play becomes the established policy, what will happen to people who're paying their local cable, but neighbors are using it for their Wi Fi computer connection?

This happens all the time in Big Cities. I have known of several people, who once they lost their jobs, realized they could simply Wi Fi off the neighbors in the skyscraper above them. This allows them to use the internet to continue using their email accounts, look for jobs, keep up their porno viewing, participate in political blogs like this one, etc. All without their paying a dime...

Doesn't the new policy mean that millions of Americans will suddenly realize, via their increased cable bill, that they have had their cable access "borrowed" or stolen?

It is not hard. Change the logon password. Pick WPA2 Encryption and turn it on.
Also set up MAC address on a white list on the router.
You can also limit DHCP Leases To the number of devices you have.
Make'em work for it.

2. Something tells me you have the ability to write a very decent article

For a local newspaper.

I mean, I don't even follow some of what you are saying, but it does seem like you know your stuff. If you expanded on it, and sent it in to local newspaper, the editor there might be willing to run said article and maybe pay you to boot!

Don't know if now is the time or not, but as soon as the Pay to Play kicks in, people will really want to have this information.

3. RC...could yu post this in DU "Computer Help & Support" Group here on DU?

Personally...I and family members have been having incredible problems dealing with a way to keep those people off our Feeds. We are all Linksys Users...and have different Providers...but have been through hell keeping up our connections and we think it's our neighbors siphoning off us.

But, none of us is very computer speak literate.

If you could post something in that forum for the "dumb" amongst us...it would be huge helpful...if you could!

4. Some of us are working with "Earthlink" and need to know how to

"Lock Down" and pick WPA2 Encryption when our whole internet access has gone down and we are dealing with "Pat" from Pakistan who is trying to walk us through getting our Connections going again when our small business depends on what he walks us through.

We can't afford better and WHAT IS BETTER these days, anyway?

All I have for reference around here is Cisco and AT&T, but all the modems should be basically similar.
Maybe tomorrow (afternoon) some time in the Computer & help group.
